Where to find the SAI number on my son's processed FAFSA?

Finally got my son's FAFSA processed after waiting for what felt like FOREVER (submitted in early January!). Now I'm trying to help him understand his financial aid options but can't find the SAI number anywhere on studentaid.gov. We've looked through all the tabs and documents but nothing shows his actual SAI. His college is asking for this number and I feel stupid not being able to find it. Is it hidden somewhere specific? Do they email it separately? This is our first time dealing with FAFSA and I'm completely lost. Thanks in advance for any help!

The SAI (Student Aid Index) should appear on your son's Student Aid Report (SAR). Log into studentaid.gov with your son's FSA ID, go to the dashboard, and look for 'View Student Aid Report (SAR)' - it's usually a PDF you can download. The SAI number should be clearly listed there. If you can't find it, it might be that the processing isn't 100% complete even though it says 'processed.

Thank you! We looked at the dashboard but didn't see any PDF to download. It just shows 'processed' with a green checkmark. Is there a specific button we need to click to see the SAR?

they changed everything this year its all confusing. the SAI is not in the same place as the old EFC was. you have to click on more options somewhere I think and then you can download the full report. took me HOURS to find it for my daughter

Glad I'm not the only one confused! This new system is so frustrating. Will keep looking for that 'more options' button.

LOL welcome to the wonderful world of FAFSA 2.0! The SAI is definitely on the Student Aid Report but with the new FAFSA Simplification Act changes, some people are reporting they can't see their SAI number even after processing. A few things to try: 1. Check under 'My Documents' not just the dashboard 2. Sometimes it takes 3-5 BUSINESS days after 'processing' before the SAI actually appears 3. Try different browsers (seriously - Chrome works better than Safari for some reason) If all else fails, call Federal Student Aid directly at 1-800-433-3243, but good luck getting through. Their wait times are insane right now with all the FAFSA changes and delays.

We tried all three of your suggestions and still no luck! Tried calling that number too but got disconnected after waiting 40 minutes. This is so frustrating when colleges are asking for this information!

I had this EXACT same problem two weeks ago with my daughter's FAFSA. After trying literally everything, I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual FAFSA agent in about 20 minutes instead of the usual 2+ hour wait. The agent was able to tell me our SAI over the phone and also showed me where to find it (it was hiding in a totally non-obvious place on the SAR). Saved me so much stress! You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ or just go to claimyr.com. Way better than getting disconnected after waiting forever.

Thank you so much for the recommendation! I'm definitely going to try this service. At this point, I'd do anything to get this number before my son's college deadline.

The SAI is definitely listed on the SAR, but in my experience it's not obvious. On the new FAFSA, go to your dashboard, click on "View your processed FAFSA form", then look for a link that says "View SAR" or "View Student Aid Report" - it's usually near the top. Once you open that, the SAI should be on the first page in a box. If you STILL can't find it, your son can actually contact his college's financial aid office directly. They can see his SAI in their system once his FAFSA has been processed. Might be faster than dealing with FSA's phone system.

Thanks for the detailed instructions! We're going to try this right now. If we still can't find it, contacting the financial aid office is a great backup plan.

JUST WENT THROUGH THIS NIGHTMARE!!! The SAI isn't showing up for TONS of people because the new FAFSA is a DISASTER. My daughter's colleges could see her SAI in their systems but we couldn't see it anywhere on studentaid.gov. Even the FSA agent I finally reached couldn't explain why. Some schools are accepting screenshots of the "processed" status instead of the actual SAI number because they know about the problem.

That's actually a relief to hear it's a widespread issue! I'll ask the college if they can see it in their system or if they'll accept the screenshot showing it's processed. Thanks for the suggestion!

We checked all the emails but unfortunately it just says the FAFSA was processed successfully without listing the actual SAI number. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Since you've tried all the standard methods, here's what worked for me after dealing with this same issue last month: 1. Use the studentaid.gov mobile app instead of the website - sometimes the SAI appears there when it doesn't show on the web version 2. Look for "View Student Aid Report (SAR)" under the FAFSA status section and download the PDF - the SAI should be at the top 3. If you still can't find it, your son should ask his college financial aid office if they can see his SAI - they often have access to it even when families can't see it The FAFSA system is experiencing unprecedented issues this year due to the major overhaul. Many schools are aware of these problems and have workarounds in place.

Thank you! We'll try the mobile app - hadn't thought of that. I appreciate everyone's help with this frustrating situation. Will update if we finally find the SAI!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My daughter's FAFSA shows "processed" but we can't locate the SAI anywhere. After reading all these responses, it's clear this is a major system-wide issue with the new FAFSA. I called her college's financial aid office yesterday and they confirmed they can see her SAI on their end, so they're just using that instead of requiring us to provide it. Definitely recommend calling the school directly - it might save you hours of frustration trying to navigate the broken studentaid.gov system. The financial aid counselor I spoke with said they're getting dozens of calls about this exact problem every day.

This is so reassuring to hear! I was starting to think we were doing something wrong. Just got off the phone with my son's financial aid office and they confirmed they can see his SAI in their system too. They said they're dealing with this issue constantly and are totally understanding about it. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know we're not alone in this mess!
