Where to find my son's FAFSA SAI score when only my daughter received hers?
I've been dealing with this FAFSA nightmare since February 7th and I'm at my wit's end! My son will be a sophomore this fall, and I just did a live chat with FAFSA this morning. The agent told me his application is complete and everything was sent to his college. Great, right? But when I asked what his SAI score is, she said I need to contact the school directly to get that information.\n\nWhat's frustrating is that my daughter (who'll be a senior this fall) had no issues - her process was smooth, and she actually received an email from FAFSA with her SAI score. We have all her financial aid info from her school including her Pell Grant amount.\n\nSo why can't we see my son's SAI score directly from FAFSA? Is this normal? The whole process seems to be different between my two kids and I'm confused why one would get the score directly while the other doesn't. Has anyone else had this experience with different siblings applying for FAFSA in the same year?

This happened to me with my twins! One got an email with their SAI, the other one we had to wait for the school to tell us. I think FAFSA is just super inconsistent with how they send out notices this year with all the new changes. My daughter's SAI showed up in her studentaid.gov account under the \

Thank you! That makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'll check my son's studentaid.gov account again under the \

Financial aid advisor here - this is actually normal with the new FAFSA system. The Student Aid Index (SAI) is calculated by the FAFSA processor and then transmitted to the schools listed on the FAFSA. Not all students receive direct communication about their SAI from the Department of Education.\n\nThe new system is supposed to show this information in the studentaid.gov portal under the \

I had the exact same problem trying to get my SAI score! Spent WEEKS trying to reach someone at the FAFSA hotline with no luck. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual agent without the ridiculous wait times. They have this service that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is ready to talk. Saved me hours of frustration! You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ\n\nWhen I finally got through, the agent was able to tell me my SAI directly over the phone. Worth trying if the school is taking too long to get back to you.

I've never heard of this service before, but at this point I'm willing to try anything. The wait times have been absolutely ridiculous. Did they need any special information to help you get your SAI score when you finally reached someone?

They just needed the same verification info you'd normally provide to FAFSA - FSA ID, birthdate, SSN. The agent I spoke with was able to see everything in my file including the SAI score. They also explained why it wasn't showing up in my portal (some tech glitch they were working on). Definitely worth a try!

why does everyone make this so complicated lol just log in to the studentaid.gov site and look under the my aid tab its right there with your efc and pell amount. or just wait for ur school to send the financial aid package, they'll have it all calculated there anyway.

It's not that simple for many people due to the FAFSA system changes this year. Many students don't have the SAI displayed in their portal yet - that's literally the problem the original poster described. The information is being inconsistently displayed across different student accounts.

The FAFSA system has been a COMPLETE DISASTER this year!!! I'm dealing with this exact same issue but with three kids in college. One has their SAI, the other two don't. I've called FAFSA 17 TIMES and either get disconnected or wait on hold for 2+ hours only to be told they \

Seventeen times?! That's absolutely horrible. I'm so sorry you're going through this with three kids. It really does feel like we're stuck in a loop where everyone keeps redirecting us elsewhere. Have you had any luck contacting the schools directly? Any of them been more helpful than the others?

ONE school has been amazing - they actually calculated an estimated SAI based on the information they received from FAFSA and used that to create a preliminary aid package. The other two schools just keep saying \

Just want to clarify something important: The SAI (Student Aid Index) replaced the old EFC (Expected Family Contribution) in the 2024-2025 FAFSA. Many schools are still adjusting to this change.\n\nTechnically, FAFSA doesn't have to provide your SAI directly to you - they calculate it and provide it to your selected schools. The schools then use this to determine your financial aid package. Some students receive this information via email or in their studentaid.gov portal, but it's not guaranteed or required.\n\nThe most reliable way to get your son's SAI is to contact his school's financial aid office directly. They will have this information if FAFSA marked his application as complete.

Thank you for explaining this! I didn't realize the SAI was a new replacement for the EFC. That helps me understand why the process seems different than in previous years. I'll definitely contact his school's financial aid office tomorrow.

That's a good point! I just checked his spam folder but nothing there. He does have his own FSA ID, and I've been logging in with his credentials to check his status. I'm going to have him log in himself tonight just to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I wanted to add one more thing that might be helpful. The timing of when SAI scores are calculated and displayed can vary widely depending on when the FAFSA was submitted and if there were any verification requirements.\n\nIf your daughter submitted her FAFSA earlier or had a less complex financial situation, her application might have been processed in an earlier batch. The Department of Education has been rolling out features of the new system gradually.\n\nAlso, do check if your son's FAFSA was selected for verification. If it was, the SAI might not be finalized until that process is complete, even if the application shows as \

This is really helpful context. We actually did submit both FAFSAs on the same day (Feb 7th), but my son's took much longer to process initially. I'll check if he was selected for verification - that might explain the difference in how they're handling his application vs. my daughter's.
