Still getting FAFSA submission emails after completing application - what's going on?

Is anyone else super confused by the FAFSA email notifications? My son and I completed his 2024-25 FAFSA application over two weeks ago. We both signed electronically, got confirmation numbers, and even called FSA to confirm everything was properly submitted. The agent assured us we were all set and that his SAI had been calculated. But I'm STILL getting these annoying emails saying 'ACTION REQUIRED: Submit Your FAFSA Form Section' claiming that 'my section hasn't been submitted yet.' I received another one just today (May 6th)! When I log into studentaid.gov everything shows as complete. I'm worried that something is actually wrong with his application that might affect his financial aid package. Has anyone else dealt with this email glitch? Should I ignore it or is there something I'm missing?

So frustrating! Did you also call them to confirm? I'm wondering if I should just ignore these emails or if I need to do something else.

This is actually a common issue with the new FAFSA system. Those automated emails are triggered by a glitch in their notification system when there's a processing delay between submission confirmation and final processing. If you've confirmed with FSA customer service that your application is complete AND you can see in your studentaid.gov account that both you and your student have signed and submitted your sections, you're fine. The emails should stop eventually, but may continue for a few more weeks due to the backlog they're experiencing with the new system. I recommend taking a screenshot of your completion status on the website just for your records, but otherwise you can safely ignore these emails.

Thank you so much for this clear explanation! That makes sense. I'll take that screenshot today just to be safe. Glad to hear we're not the only ones experiencing this.

We had this exact problem and it turned out that even though we thought everything was submitted, my husband never actually electronically signed his section! Check under the contributor section of the application to make sure all required signatures are there. For us, something got lost when we were bouncing between screens.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just double-checked and can confirm both my signature and my son's signature are definitely there with confirmation timestamps. So strange that the emails keep coming!

Thanks! I went back through the entire application again section by section and everything shows complete with green checkmarks. I even checked the confirmation page again. That's why I'm so confused about these emails.

Those emails are incredibly frustrating! I was getting them for weeks after completing my daughter's FAFSA. I spent HOURS on hold trying to reach someone at Federal Student Aid before giving up. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me through to an actual human at FSA in about 15 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent confirmed our application was complete and that these emails are automatically triggered by their system and sometimes continue even after successful submission. She put a note in our file marking the application as complete and the emails finally stopped after that.

Thank you for this suggestion! If I get another email next week, I'll definitely try Claimyr rather than spending hours on hold again. Glad to hear they were able to actually fix the issue for you!

Just adding another perspective - we completed our FAFSA in late March and kept getting these emails through April. I ignored them since our studentaid.gov account showed everything as complete. Two weeks ago we got our official SAI calculation and aid offer from my daughter's college, so everything processed correctly despite those emails. I think it's just a system notification error.

This is really reassuring, thank you! I was worried these emails might mean his application wasn't actually being processed. Good to know your daughter's aid came through despite the confusing emails.

RIDICULOUS how bad this new FAFSA rollout has been!!!! My son might LOSE HIS SCHOLARSHIP because of all these delays and system errors. And customer service is USELESS - waited 3 hours just to be disconnected. This whole system should be SCRAPPED and they should go back to the old one that actually WORKED!!!!!

I'm so sorry about your son's scholarship! That's exactly what I'm worried about - that these emails indicate a real problem that could affect my son's aid. Have you found any solution yet?

Just to clarify something important - this email issue doesn't affect your SAI calculation or aid eligibility. Your application data is already in their system if you received confirmation numbers. The notifications are from a separate automated system that's not correctly syncing with the submission database. As long as you can see the completed status on studentaid.gov, colleges will be able to access your information, and your son will receive the aid he's eligible for. If you're still concerned, contact your son's college financial aid office directly. They can verify that your FAFSA data has been received in their system.

That's a great idea about contacting the college financial aid office directly. I'll do that tomorrow just to triple-check everything is processing correctly. Thank you for the reassurance!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue! Completed my FAFSA in early April and I'm still getting those "ACTION REQUIRED" emails even though everything shows as submitted on the website. It's so stressful because you never know if it's actually a problem or just a glitch. Reading through all these responses is really helpful - sounds like it's definitely a system error that a lot of people are experiencing. I'm going to take the advice about screenshotting my completion status and maybe reaching out to my college's financial aid office to confirm they received my information. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

You're definitely not alone in this! I've been following this thread because I'm having the same issue with my daughter's FAFSA. We completed everything in late March and still get those emails weekly. What's really helped ease my anxiety is what @dd94b24c0ab6 mentioned - the emails are just a notification glitch and don't actually affect the processing. I called our college's financial aid office last week and they confirmed they had all our FAFSA data, even though I was still getting the action required emails. It's such a relief to know so many families are dealing with this same frustrating situation!

This thread has been so helpful! I'm a parent going through this exact same nightmare with my daughter's FAFSA. We submitted everything in mid-April, got confirmation numbers, and I can see everything is complete on the portal, but those "ACTION REQUIRED" emails just won't stop coming. I was literally losing sleep over this thinking we messed something up that would affect her aid package. Reading everyone's experiences here has been such a relief - it's clearly a widespread system glitch with their notification emails. I'm going to follow the advice about contacting her college's financial aid office directly to confirm they have all the data they need. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and solutions. It's reassuring to know we're not alone in dealing with this frustrating rollout!

I'm so glad this thread exists too! As someone new to the FAFSA process, I was panicking when I kept getting those emails after completing my application last week. It's such a relief to hear from so many experienced parents that this is just a system glitch and not something we need to worry about. I'm definitely going to take screenshots of my completion status and contact my college's financial aid office like everyone suggested. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - it really helps to know we're all dealing with the same frustrating issues with this new system!
