FAFSA confirmation received but got email to complete form again - what happened to our aid info?

I'm so confused right now. My son and I submitted our FAFSA back in January (both our parts completed correctly), and we received emails confirming it was "Processed Successfully" with a confirmation number. Great, I thought. Now we just wait to hear about his financial aid packages. But yesterday, we BOTH received emails telling us we need to complete our FAFSA forms! There's no information about any aid amounts, SAI score, or anything we were expecting. It's like they're pretending they never got our application, even though we have confirmation numbers proving it was processed! Has anyone else experienced this? Is this some kind of glitch in the new FAFSA system? My son is graduating in June and needs to make college decisions soon, but we can't do that without knowing what aid he'll receive. I'm starting to panic.

omg same thing happened to me!!! submitted in dec and got the confirmation emails but then they sent us an email last week saying we need to submit!! i called studentaid.gov like 7 times and couldnt get through to anyone. its crazy frustrating

Did you ever get through to anyone? I've been trying to call too but just getting automated messages.

This is a known issue with the 2025-26 FAFSA. The Department of Education has been experiencing significant problems with their new system rollout. Many applicants who completed their forms are getting these erroneous emails. You should check your studentaid.gov account directly - log in and check the status there. Many people are finding their applications do actually show as completed in the system despite these emails. If your account shows it's processed, take screenshots for your records, and contact your son's schools directly to confirm they received the FAFSA data. Schools often have access to information before students do.

Thank you! I just checked our account and it DOES show as completed, which is a relief. I'll call his top choice schools tomorrow to verify they received it. This is all so stressful!

I'm dealing with a similar issue but slightly different. Our FAFSA shows as processed but my daughter's school says they never received the data transmission. When I called the financial aid office, they said this is happening to lots of students this year and recommended we wait another week before trying to resubmit. Have you checked with any of the schools your son applied to? They might be able to tell you if they actually received his FAFSA data despite the confusing emails.

yeah our financial aid officer said the same thing! they're getting tons of calls about this issue. its all because they changed the fafsa system and its been a total disaster this year

After trying to call Federal Student Aid for THREE DAYS and constantly getting disconnected, I finally got through using Claimyr.com - they connected me to an actual FAFSA agent in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed this is a system-wide issue and told me to ignore those emails if you already have a confirmation number. They're working on fixing it and sending out correction emails soon. Check out their video demo if you want to see how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Saved me so much frustration after days of failed attempts to get through.

Thank you for this suggestion! I've been so frustrated trying to get through on the phone. I'll check this out because I really need to speak with someone directly about our situation.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the FAFSA Simplification Act implementation. While the goal was to make the application process easier, the rollout has been problematic. Here's what's happening: 1. Your FAFSA is likely already processed correctly despite the email 2. The Department of Education's notification system is experiencing bugs 3. Your son's SAI (Student Aid Index, which replaced EFC) should still be calculated and sent to schools Rather than waiting for another email, I'd recommend: - Contact each school's financial aid office directly to confirm they received your FAFSA - Ask them if they can see your son's SAI score - Request an estimated timeline for aid packages Most schools are aware of these issues and are working to provide aid packages despite the FAFSA system problems.

This is really helpful, thank you! I didn't realize the SAI had already replaced the EFC. I've made a list of all his schools to contact tomorrow. Fingers crossed they have the information already.

FAFSA IS COMPLETELY BROKEN THIS YEAR!!! My daughter submitted in December and we're STILL dealing with problems. First they lost our form, then they found it, then they sent us emails saying we needed to fix errors that didn't exist, and now they're saying everything is fine but her college says they haven't received anything! The Department of Ed KNEW they weren't ready to roll out this new system but did it anyway and now millions of students are at risk of losing aid because of THEIR incompetence. I've spent HOURS on the phone trying to fix this. DON'T trust the emails or the website. Call each school directly and stay on them until they confirm they have your information.

UPDATE: I wanted to share what happened in case others have the same issue. I finally got through to someone at Federal Student Aid (using the Claimyr service someone recommended - it actually worked!). They confirmed our FAFSA is complete and properly processed. The confusing emails were sent in error to thousands of students. The representative said we should: 1. Ignore the emails asking us to complete the FAFSA again 2. Check our studentaid.gov account for the most accurate status 3. Contact schools directly to confirm they received our FAFSA data I called my son's top three schools, and they all confirmed they received his FAFSA information last month! Two of them even gave me his SAI number over the phone. They said aid packages will be delayed by about 2-3 weeks but should be coming soon. What a relief! Hope this helps others in the same situation.

Thank you so much for updating us! I'm going to call my daughter's schools tomorrow. This gives me hope that we're not actually behind in the process despite all the confusion.

Great detective work! This is exactly the right approach. For anyone else reading this thread, always verify directly with your schools rather than relying solely on the studentaid.gov communications during this transitional period.

As a newcomer to this community, I just want to say thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions here! I was panicking when I got the same confusing email yesterday, but reading through all your responses has been incredibly helpful. I'm definitely going to log into my studentaid.gov account to check the actual status and then call my daughter's schools directly. It's reassuring to know this is a widespread system issue and not something we did wrong. The suggestion about using Claimyr to get through to Federal Student Aid is gold - I've bookmarked that for if I need to call them directly. This whole FAFSA rollout has been such a mess, but at least we're all helping each other navigate it!

Welcome to the community! I'm also new here and going through the same FAFSA nightmare. It's been such a relief to find this thread - I was convinced we had somehow messed up our application when we got that confusing email. The step-by-step advice from everyone here has been a lifesaver. I'm planning to check our studentaid.gov account first thing tomorrow morning and then start calling schools. At least we know we're not alone in dealing with this chaos!

As someone who's also new to this community and dealing with the same FAFSA chaos, I can't thank everyone enough for sharing their experiences and solutions! My family got hit with the exact same confusing email after receiving confirmation back in February, and I was absolutely terrified we'd somehow lost our financial aid. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly reassuring - especially learning that this is a system-wide glitch and not something we did wrong. I'm going to follow the advice here: check our studentaid.gov account status first, then call each of my son's colleges directly to confirm they received his FAFSA data. The Claimyr suggestion for getting through to Federal Student Aid is brilliant - I've already bookmarked it in case we need direct help. It's honestly a relief to know there are actual solutions and that other families are successfully navigating this mess. This community is exactly what stressed parents like us need right now!

Welcome to the community, Josef! It's amazing how this thread has become such a lifeline for all of us dealing with this FAFSA mess. I'm also pretty new here and was feeling completely overwhelmed until I found these discussions. The fact that so many of us are experiencing the exact same issue really drives home that this is definitely a Department of Education problem, not something any of us did wrong. I'm planning to follow the same game plan - check the account status online first, then start making those calls to the colleges. It's such a relief to have a clear action plan instead of just panicking! Hopefully we'll all have good news to share once we get through to the schools.
