How long does FAFSA process after submitting missing parent signature?

I'm stressed about my son's financial aid timeline! We finally managed to submit the missing parent signature on his FAFSA application yesterday after struggling with the studentaid.gov website for DAYS. The status now shows "in review" but we have no idea what to expect next. His college needs the SAI score by April 15th for scholarship consideration, so timing is getting critical. For anyone who dealt with a similar signature issue this year - how long did it take for your application to move from "in review" to fully processed? Are we looking at days or weeks at this point? Getting really nervous about missing deadlines!

We had the EXACT same problem last month! My husband's signature was missing and we got it fixed on Feb 10th. It took exactly 7 days from "in review" to get our SAI score. But I've heard it's taking longer now because they're backed up with the new system. You might still make that April 15th deadline but it'll be close.

Thank you! 7 days would be manageable. Did you have to keep checking the portal or did they email you when it was processed?

mine took 3 weeks back in january after fixing signiture issues... system is so broken this year with all the changes

3 WEEKS?? Oh no, that would definitely put us past the deadline. Did you try calling them to expedite it at all?

Processing times for signature corrections are currently averaging 10-14 business days according to the FSA office. However, you have a few options: 1. Contact your college's financial aid office immediately and explain the situation. Many schools have contingency processes for students with pending FAFSA applications. 2. Keep detailed documentation of when you submitted the correction. 3. If you're approaching the deadline without processing, request a processing status update directly from Federal Student Aid. Remember that many institutions understand the FAFSA delays this year and have adjusted their internal deadlines accordingly.

Thanks for the detailed response! I'll contact his college's financial aid office tomorrow morning. Is there any way to request a status update other than calling the Federal Student Aid number? I've tried calling several times but can never get through.

I had a similar issue with missing parent signature (TWICE actually - ugh!) and it was processed in 9 days the second time. But that was back in January before the big application rush. My cousin just had hers fixed last week and is still waiting. The whole FAFSA system is a mess this year!

I had exactly this problem with my daughter's application. After we fixed the signature issue, I tried calling FSA every day for updates and couldn't get through for almost two weeks. Finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 10 minutes who pushed our application through the system. Saved us about a week of processing time. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Totally worth it since we were up against scholarship deadlines just like you.

I've never heard of this service - just looked it up. Did you really get through that quickly? I've been on hold for hours multiple times and eventually gave up.

Yes, I was skeptical too but it actually worked. The agent I spoke with was able to see our application status and expedited the review since we had documentation showing when we submitted the correction. Not all agents will do this, but if you explain your deadline situation they might help.

Processing times vary dramatically depending on current system load. For signature-specific issues, the current estimated timeline is 10-15 business days, though I've seen some process as quickly as 5 days. The critical factor is whether your application has any other issues beyond the signature. If your application status shows only "in review" with no additional verification or information requests, that's a good sign for faster processing. You can verify this by checking the "Action Required" section of the student portal. It's also worth noting that many schools understand the widespread FAFSA delays this year and have internal protocols for students with pending applications. Some will even provide provisional financial aid packages based on your expected SAI calculation while awaiting official processing.

That's really helpful information. There's nothing in the "Action Required" section, so hopefully that means it's just the standard review. I'll definitely contact the school to see if they have any provisional options while we wait.

so fustrating! my sons fasfa took TWO MONTHS to process after we fixed the signature. missed all his scholership deadlines and had to take out way more parent plus loans then expected. call EVERY DAY and dont let them off phone until they help!!!!

Two months is highly unusual, even with this year's delays. There may have been additional verification issues beyond just the signature. For others reading this thread, Parent PLUS loans should generally be considered after maximizing federal Direct loans in the student's name, as they carry higher interest rates and fewer forgiveness options.

my daughter fixed her signature problem yesterday too! we're in the same boat. let me know if you hear anything back on yours and i'll do the same :

Will do! It's nice to know we're not alone in this. I'll update this thread when we get any movement on our application.

Quick update on processing times - I just spoke with an FSA representative yesterday who confirmed they are currently prioritizing applications with impending school deadlines. When you contact them, specifically mention your April 15th scholarship deadline, and ask if they can add a priority note to your application. This won't guarantee faster processing, but it may help. Also, make sure to check both the student AND parent emails for any communications, as sometimes verification requests go to the parent email even though the student is the primary applicant.
