Getting FAFSA non-submission emails after confirmed submission - glitch or serious problem?
I'm freaking out right now! I submitted my FAFSA application last week (Oct 22) and got the confirmation email with my submission number. Everything seemed normal, I even checked my studentaid.gov account and it showed "processing" status. But today I received TWO separate emails saying my FAFSA hasn't been submitted yet and that I need to complete it ASAP! The emails look official from Federal Student Aid. Is the system glitching out or did something actually go wrong with my application? Has this happened to anyone else? My SAI calculation is super important for the schools I'm applying to and I can't afford to miss any deadlines 😩

This is actually happening to quite a few students this year. The FSA system has been sending erroneous non-submission emails to some applicants who successfully completed their FAFSA. If you received a confirmation number and your status shows as "processing" in your account, your form was most likely submitted correctly. However, I recommend taking a screenshot of your processing status page as documentation and checking again in 3-5 business days. The processing status should eventually change to "completed" with your SAI score visible.

•Thank you so much!! That makes me feel a little better. I'll definitely take screenshots right now. Do you think I should call them just to make sure everything is ok with my application?

•Oh wow, I'm not alone! Did you end up calling them or just waiting it out? I'm so stressed about this.

I think there's something seriously wrong with the FAFSA system this year. The same thing happened to me, but then a week later I got an email saying I was selected for verification even though I used the IRS data retrieval tool! This whole system is a MESS. I'd call them ASAP to verify everything because my friend thought her application was fine and it turned out it actually WASN'T submitted correctly.

•It's important to note that being selected for verification doesn't necessarily mean there's an error. Approximately 30% of FAFSA applications are randomly selected for verification each year, even when using the IRS data retrieval tool. While there are indeed some system issues this year, verification is a normal part of the process for many applicants.

This same thing happened to me last year. I received three emails saying my FAFSA wasn't submitted when it definitely was. I spent hours trying to call the Federal Student Aid Information Center but kept getting disconnected or put on hold forever. What finally worked was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual FAFSA agent who confirmed my application was indeed submitted correctly and the emails were sent in error. Saved me so much stress! They have a demo video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ if you're interested. Much better than waiting on hold for hours.

•Thanks for the tip! I was just about to start calling them today. Does this service actually work? I've never heard of it before but I'm desperate to talk to someone about my application.

•Definitely worked for me. They basically call and wait on hold for you, then when an agent is available they connect you directly. The FAFSA agent I talked to confirmed everything was fine with my application and they were having email system issues. Gave me peace of mind knowing for sure rather than just hoping everything was okay.

LITERALLY THE EXACT SAME THING!!!! I got the confirmation email on Oct 18, then yesterday got TWO emails saying I didn't submit!! I even took screenshots of the confirmation page when I submitted because I don't trust their system. The new FAFSA is such a nightmare - my parents' contributor section got all messed up too and we had to redo it 3 times. I'm seriously stressing about whether my colleges will get my information on time.

This appears to be a known issue with the FAFSA notification system this cycle. Here's what you should do: 1. Login to studentaid.gov and verify your submission status (which you've done) 2. Save a PDF of your confirmation page (not just a screenshot) 3. Check that your SAI appears on your processed application (may take 3-7 days) 4. If your SAI doesn't appear within 7 days, or if status changes to anything other than "processing" or "completed," then contact FSA 5. Ignore the erroneous emails if your online status shows processing/completed The system is experiencing delays due to high volume and some notification errors, but your actual submission status in your online account is what matters.

•Thank you for these clear steps! I'll save a PDF right now. My application still shows processing but no SAI yet - it's been 6 days. Should I be worried if it takes longer than 7 days to get my SAI?

•Some applications are taking up to 14 days to process this year, so I wouldn't be too concerned if it goes slightly beyond 7 days. The important thing is that your status shows "processing" rather than "not submitted" or "incomplete." If it goes beyond 14 days, then I would definitely contact FSA for clarification.

I had something similar happen but turns out in my case there WAS actually a problem. I thought I submitted my FAFSA but I had only completed the student section and not the parent contributor section (my dad needed to sign). So definitely double-check all sections show complete and that you have the confirmation page showing all green checkmarks. Just saying this so you can be 100% sure!

•Thanks for mentioning this! I just went back and checked and all sections do show complete with green checkmarks, and both my mom (contributor) and I signed it. The confirmation email I got did include a submission number, so I think I'm good...just paranoid now!

•If your SAI is changing, it likely means either: 1. Corrections were made to your application 2. The system is still calculating your final SAI 3. There was an error in the initial calculation The most recent SAI displayed in your completed application is the one that will be sent to schools. If you didn't make any corrections yourself, I'd recommend contacting Federal Student Aid to ask about the discrepancy.

Update: I finally got through to someone at FSA! The agent confirmed my application IS submitted correctly and said the emails were sent due to a system glitch. Apparently this is happening to lots of people. She said to ignore the emails as long as my studentaid.gov account shows "processing" or "completed" status. Such a relief! My SAI finally appeared today too ($4,235). Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

•Glad to hear you got it resolved! This is a great reminder for everyone to rely on the status shown in your studentaid.gov account rather than email notifications, especially this year with all the system changes.

•How long did you wait on hold??? I've been trying to call them for 2 days and can't get through!

•I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. They called and waited on hold, then connected me once an agent was available. Took about 1.5 hours total but I didn't have to personally sit on hold the whole time.
