FAFSA signature loop nightmare - no SAI after 3 months
I'm seriously ready to throw my laptop out the window. We completed my daughter's FAFSA back in February (right after taxes), but we STILL don't have an SAI number. The studentaid.gov site keeps asking me to sign the FAFSA over and over - I've literally signed it 22 different times and it keeps looping back to asking for my signature again! The most infuriating part is that my daughter's friends who applied in APRIL already have their numbers and award letters. Has anyone dealt with this signature glitch? Is there some trick to breaking this endless loop? My daughter's graduating in a month and we have zero idea what financial aid she'll get for college.

•Did you ever figure out how to fix it? I've tried different browsers, clearing cookies, even had my husband try signing from his account. Nothing works!

This is a known glitch in the new FAFSA system. What browser are you using? I've found that Edge and Firefox work better than Chrome for the signature process. Also, make sure you're using the desktop version, not mobile. The mobile site has more signature loop issues.

•I've tried Chrome and Safari. I'll download Firefox right now and see if that helps. It's just so frustrating that this is even a problem. Three months with no progress!

•Another thing to check - make sure your FSA ID credentials match EXACTLY what's on your tax records and social security documentation. Even a middle initial discrepancy can cause the signature loop.

•OMG the phone system is even worse! I called 5 times and got hung up on every single time after waiting 2+ hours. This might be the most inefficient government program ever created

You need to try calling Federal Student Aid directly. The signature loop is usually caused by a data verification issue on their end - something in your tax info isn't matching what they have on file. When I had a similar issue, I finally got through to a support agent who was able to manually override the signature requirement and push my application through processing. By the way, I had been trying to call FSA for weeks with no luck until I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an agent in under 20 minutes. It's the only way I actually got through to a human. Here's the site: claimyr.com - they have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Definitely worth it after wasting hours on hold!

•Thank you! I've been avoiding calling because everyone says it's impossible to get through. I'll check out Claimyr - at this point I'll try anything to break this loop. Did the agent actually solve your problem or just promise to look into it?

•The agent was able to fix it immediately once I got connected. They manually verified my signature and override the glitch. My SAI showed up about 3 days later. Just make sure you have your FSA ID and all your tax info ready when they answer.

Have you tried submitting a formal processing error report? Go to studentaid.gov/help-center/contact and file a case specifically about the signature loop issue. Make sure to include: - Your daughter's full name and DOB - The confirmation number from your FAFSA submission - The exact date of your original filing - Screenshots of the signature loop (if possible) I work with college financial aid offices, and we've seen this issue resolved through the formal error reporting process when direct phone calls didn't work. The technical team that handles these reports seems to have better tools for fixing the signature verification bugs.

•I didn't know about this option! Thank you so much - I'll submit the error report tonight. Should I also tell my daughter's prospective colleges about this issue, or will they already know since they can see her FAFSA status?

•Absolutely contact the financial aid offices at each school! They won't necessarily know there's a processing issue unless you tell them. Most schools have procedures for handling FAFSA processing delays, but they need to know about the problem. They may even have institutional workarounds to estimate her aid package while waiting for the official SAI.

I just went through this same nightmare with my son's FAFSA. After weeks of the signature loop, we discovered the issue was that my legal name on my taxes (including my middle name) didn't exactly match how I entered it on the FAFSA. When I fixed that tiny discrepancy, the signature finally went through. Also, sometimes the FAFSA system shows the signature loop on your end, but the application is actually processing normally on their end. Have you checked your daughter's student aid account rather than just your parent account? Sometimes the parent view shows errors that aren't reflected in the student view.

•That's a great point about checking her account! I've only been looking at my parent view. I'll have her log in tonight and see if it shows something different. I'm also going to check my name formatting...I usually don't include my middle name but maybe I did on one form and not the other.

anyone else think its weird that we have to do this every year? my cousins in canada just fill out one form for their whole college time, not this yearly nonsense with all these glitches and problems. the whole FAFSA system needs to be redone from scratch tbh

•YES!!!! its so stupid. and they say the "simplified" it this year lolololol

•While I understand the frustration, annual filing is actually necessary because family financial situations change year to year. The verification process ensures aid goes to those who need it most based on current circumstances. That said, the implementation this year has been problematic.

UPDATE: We figured it out! After trying everything suggested here, we found the issue. My daughter had a typo in her email address on the FAFSA, so the verification emails were going nowhere. We fixed the email, then I was able to complete the signature process WITHOUT the loop! Just got confirmation that it's processing now. We also contacted the financial aid offices at her top schools like @financialaidpro suggested, and they've been super helpful. They're going to prepare preliminary aid packages while we wait for the official SAI. Thanks for all the suggestions! For anyone else stuck in signature loop hell, check every single detail on your application - one tiny error can cause the whole system to break.

•That's fantastic news! And a great reminder to everyone about checking those basic details. Glad you got it sorted out and that the schools are working with you on preliminary packages. Good luck to your daughter with college!
