FAFSA signature confusion - do we click a button or type our name when making corrections?
I'm trying to make some corrections to my 2025-2026 FAFSA application and got to the signature page. Now I'm second-guessing myself... when we make corrections to the FAFSA, do we just click a signature button, or do we actually have to type our name in somewhere? I swear when I originally submitted it I had to type something, but now I just see a button. Is this normal or am I missing something? Don't want my corrections to get rejected over something stupid like this!

You're not overthinking! For FAFSA corrections, you just need to click the signature button - no need to type your name again. The system uses your FSA ID as your electronic signature. As long as you're logged in with your FSA ID, clicking the button is all you need to do to legally sign the correction form. The original application might have had you type your name, but the correction process is streamlined.

•Omg thank you!! I was sitting here staring at my screen for like 20 minutes thinking I was missing something. My SAI was calculated wrong because I accidentally put an extra zero on my savings, so I really need these corrections to go through ASAP.

•Really? That's what I thought too! Maybe they did update the system or something. So confusing when they change things mid-application season 🙄

•Yes, you definitely need to sign after making corrections! The process isn't complete until you electronically sign. Log back into your studentaid.gov account right away and check if your corrections are still pending. You might see a notification that you need to sign. If you don't complete the signature, your corrections won't be processed.

The signature process for FAFSA corrections has actually changed a couple times in the last year with the simplified FAFSA rollout. Currently, you just need to click the signature button when you're logged in with your FSA ID. This verifies your identity through your FSA ID credentials rather than requiring a typed signature. However, if you're a dependent student, remember that a parent with their own FSA ID needs to sign your corrections as well. The parent should log in with their FSA ID and complete their signature too. Both signatures are required for the corrections to be processed for dependent students.

•That makes sense. I am a dependent student, so I'll make sure my mom signs it too with her FSA ID. Thanks for clarifying!

•this is the exact problem I had with my daughters application. I didnt know I needed to sign after SHE made corrections and her SAI was wrong for 2 months!!! cost us a $2000 scholarship deadline because we thought financial aid office was just slow!!!!

If you're having trouble with the FAFSA signature process or any other issues, you might want to try reaching out directly to a Federal Student Aid agent. I was stuck in a similar situation last month and couldn't get through on the regular FSA number. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an actual human at FSA in about 10 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to confirm that my corrections had actually gone through, despite the website not reflecting it yet. Saved me a lot of stress!

•I've never heard of that service before, but it might be worth checking out if I have any more issues. I'm hoping my corrections go through quickly, but with my luck, something else will probably go wrong lol. Thanks for the tip!

•It worked for me! I was skeptical at first, but after being disconnected three times trying to call FSA directly, I was desperate. Got through in about 8 minutes and the agent helped sort out my correction issues right away.

The whole signature thing was so confusing when I did corrections last week too! Just click the button, that's all you need. But make sure you go all the way through until it says "submission complete" or whatever. I thought I had finished but turns out I missed the final confirmation screen and my changes weren't saved!

•Oh that's good to know! I'll make sure to go all the way through all the screens. They really need to make this process more user-friendly.

As a final tip, after you submit your corrections and both you (and your parent if you're a dependent) have signed, I recommend taking a screenshot of the confirmation page. Also note the confirmation number if one is provided. This way you have proof that you completed the process correctly if there are any issues later. You should receive an email confirmation within 3-5 days that your corrections were processed, and your SAI should update shortly after that.

•That's a great idea! I'll definitely take screenshots. Thanks for all the help everyone!
