Do parents need to re-sign FAFSA after student makes corrections?

My daughter just corrected some information on her 2025-2026 FAFSA application and resubmitted it yesterday. When I log into my studentaid.gov account as a contributor, it shows her application is "in review" but doesn't give me any option to sign again. I'm not sure if I need to do anything else on my end. This is my first kid in college so I'm still figuring out how all this works. The initial application required both our signatures, so I'm confused about whether corrections need both signatures too? Anyone know the process here?

That's weird, I don't see any emails from studentaid.gov. Should I wait a few more days or contact them?

Whether you need to re-sign depends on what information was corrected. If your daughter only fixed minor errors that don't affect contributions (like a typo in an address or phone number), then you might not need to sign again. But if she corrected financial information, parental information, or household size, both of you would typically need to provide signatures again. The "in review" status might be temporary while their system processes the changes. I'd recommend waiting 48 hours, then logging in again to check. A notification banner should appear if your signature is required.

Thank you! She did update some financial information from my W-2 that I gave her incorrectly the first time. I'll wait a couple days and check again.

OMG the FAFSA corrections process is SO ANNOYING!! When my daughter had to fix her SAI calculation because of my business income being entered wrong, we both had to re-sign. But the system didn't notify me for like 5 DAYS that I needed to sign!!! And then her corrected SAI took ANOTHER week to process. The whole thing delayed her financial aid package by almost 3 weeks!!

Oh no, I hope it doesn't take that long for us! Her college's priority deadline for financial aid is coming up in a few weeks.

Since she corrected financial information on the 2025-2026 FAFSA, you definitely will need to re-sign as the contributor. Here's what's probably happening: 1. There's often a 1-3 day processing delay between when corrections are submitted and when the parent gets notified to sign 2. The "in review" status is normal during this period 3. You should receive an email notification to sign again, but the system sometimes has glitches If you don't get an email by tomorrow, I'd recommend calling FSA directly at 1-800-433-3243 to check if your signature is required. Don't wait too long as this could delay her SAI calculation and potentially impact aid packages.

Update: Just received an email this morning that I need to sign! You all were right. It took about 48 hours after her correction for the notification to come through. Going to sign it right now. Thanks everyone for the help!

Glad to hear you got the notification! Once you both sign, the corrected SAI should appear within 3-5 business days, though sometimes it can take longer during peak processing periods. Be sure to check back on studentaid.gov periodically to confirm the status changes from "in review" to "processed" - that's when you'll know everything is complete.

Quick question for anyone who might know - does this same process apply for the CSS Profile? My daughter needs to correct some information there too since we're applying to some private schools that require it. Would I need to re-sign that as well or is it different from the FAFSA?

The CSS Profile works differently than FAFSA. For CSS Profile corrections, your daughter would typically need to contact each school's financial aid office directly to request the change. Some schools have a specific CSS Profile correction form on their financial aid website. Unlike FAFSA, there's no central correction process - each school handles CSS Profile updates according to their own procedures.

Final update - we both signed yesterday and today her application already shows as "processed" with her updated SAI score! That was faster than I expected based on what everyone said. Now I just need to figure out what this SAI number actually means for her financial aid package... but that's probably a question for another thread! Thanks again everyone.

Nice! You got lucky with the quick processing time! And yes, understanding the SAI is a whole different headache lol. Congrats on getting it fixed!
