FAFSA reprocessing after SAI already issued - anyone else experiencing this?
Just when I thought we were finally done with the FAFSA nightmare for this year, my daughter's application is now showing 'under review' again! We received her SAI score last month (37829), and everything seemed fine. Then yesterday I logged in to check something and saw it's being 'reprocessed' with no explanation. I spent 2 hours in a chat with someone from FSA who literally said 'I don't know why this is happening' and couldn't tell me if her aid packages will change. Has anyone dealt with this reprocessing issue? Will colleges have to redo their financial aid offers? I'm so stressed because she needs to make a decision by May 1st and this throws everything into question!

Same thing happened to my nephew last week. His status changed to 'under review' after having an SAI for almost 6 weeks. The schools told him to just wait it out, but it's super annoying.

•Did they tell him how long it might take? I'm worried this will delay her financial aid packages from being finalized.

This is actually happening to quite a few students right now. There was a system-wide recalculation that FSA is doing for certain applications. The most common reasons are: 1. Income verification flags that weren't triggered initially 2. Discrepancies between reported income and tax records 3. Updates to the housing cost adjustments in certain regions 4. System glitches from the new FAFSA rollout In most cases, the SAI doesn't change significantly, but it can take 2-3 weeks for the reprocessing to complete. Your daughter should contact each school's financial aid office to let them know what's happening - they're aware of these issues and most have protocols in place.

•Thank you so much for this explanation! That's more information than I got from the actual FSA representative. I'll have her email all the schools right away.

•Have you tried reaching out directly to your school's financial aid office? They often have more information than the general FSA helpline about specific cases.

The ENTIRE FAFSA system is a DISASTER this year! My son's application was 'reprocessed' THREE TIMES between January and March. Each time his SAI changed by less than $200, but it caused weeks of delays and confusion. The financial aid offices were understanding but it still messed up his ability to compare offers before decision deadlines. The government needs to FIX THIS BROKEN SYSTEM!

•Omg yes! Our experience has been a nightmare too. Every time I think we're done, something new pops up. I'm ready to just take out private loans at this point 😫

This reprocessing happens more often than people realize. I work in financial aid at a community college, and we're seeing about 15% of applications going through this additional review. From what I understand, it's part of the verification process but happening later than usual due to the rollout problems. My advice: 1. Contact each school financial aid office directly 2. Ask if they can proceed with a "preliminary" award based on current SAI 3. Request an extension on decision deadline if needed (many schools are flexible this year) 4. Document all communications In most cases I've seen, the final SAI ends up within 5% of the original.

•Thank you for the insider perspective! I'll definitely follow your advice and contact the schools. It's good to hear that the SAI usually doesn't change much - that's my biggest worry.

I've been trying to get through to someone at Federal Student Aid for days about a similar issue with my son's application. The phone wait times are ridiculous - I was on hold for over 2 hours yesterday before getting disconnected. I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They have this service where they wait on hold for you and call when an agent is ready. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent I spoke with confirmed there's a batch reprocessing happening right now affecting applications that had certain income thresholds or special circumstances. They said it should be complete within 10 business days in most cases.

•This is so helpful - I hadn't heard of this service before. Definitely going to try it because the chat support was useless and I couldn't even get through on phone.

My daughter's FAFSA has been "processing" for almost 3 months now lol. Every time I call they give me a different answer. One person said it was because we have rental property (we don't), another said it was because of her dependency status (she's clearly dependent). The whole system is broken this year and nobody seems to know what's going on.

•EXACTLY!!! The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. I've documented EIGHT completely contradictory answers from FSA representatives about my son's application. How are families supposed to make college decisions with this level of incompetence?!

Just a quick update based on what I'm seeing across multiple cases: if your SAI is being recalculated and you already received financial aid offers, the colleges will handle this in different ways: 1. Some will honor the original offer even if your SAI changes 2. Some will adjust only if the change is significant (usually >$2000 difference in SAI) 3. Some will recalculate everything, which could change aid amounts It really depends on the school's policies and how close you are to the decision deadline. The most important thing is to communicate directly with each financial aid office rather than waiting for the process to complete on its own.

•This is really valuable information - thank you! My daughter reached out to her top three schools and they all said they'd honor the original aid offers as long as the SAI doesn't change by more than 10%. Such a relief!
