FAFSA birthdate error for 2023-2024 form after 2024-2025 already processed successfully
My 2024-2025 FAFSA for my twins finally went through (thank goodness!), but now I've hit a roadblock with the 2023-2024 form. Their university just informed me that since they're starting summer classes, I need to complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA too. When my daughter tried helping me with the older form, we keep getting an error message saying her birthdate is incorrect. I've triple-checked the 2024-2025 form where everything processed fine, and her SSN and birthdate are definitely entered correctly there. Has anyone run into this weird birthdate rejection issue with the 2023-2024 FAFSA when the 2024-2025 one worked fine? Any tricks to get around this frustrating error? I've tried clearing browser cache and using different devices but still getting stuck.

same thing happend to my son!!! try entering the bday in a different format like 01/01/2004 instead of 1/1/2004 or whatever ur using. sometimes the system is just super picky about that stuff

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try different date formats tonight. Already tried with and without leading zeros but maybe there's another format it wants.

The 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 FAFSA systems actually use different validation processes since they're separate applications. A few things to try: 1. Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 - they can verify if the birthdate in their system matches what you're entering 2. Check if her name is entered EXACTLY as it appears on her Social Security card (including middle names/initials) 3. Try using a completely different browser or device 4. Wait 24-48 hours between attempts (sometimes the system needs time to reset) If none of that works, your daughter's school financial aid office can sometimes submit an override request.

•Thank you so much for these detailed suggestions! I hadn't thought about the name format - she does use her middle initial on some documents but her full middle name on others. I'll double check against her SS card. I've been trying different browsers but haven't waited between attempts, so I'll try that too. Really appreciate the help!

omg the FAFSA system is SO FRUSTRATING!!! 😤 I had to fill out both years for my kid too and kept getting random errors. Have you tried completely starting over with a new account? Sometimes the system just gets stuck on old data and won't let you correct it. I ended up making my son a completely new FSA ID and starting from scratch after 2 weeks of fighting with the system. Ridiculous we have to jump through these hoops!

•Starting over with a new FSA ID sounds extreme but at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything! How long did it take to get the new ID approved? I'm worried about meeting deadlines for summer term.

I've helped hundreds of families with FAFSA as a financial aid consultant, and this birthdate error is actually quite common when dealing with two application years simultaneously. The most likely cause is that there's a verification hold on her account from the 2024-2025 application that's causing conflicts. Here's what works for my clients: 1. Verify both the birthday AND the name format match exactly what's on her Social Security card 2. Try calling FSA directly - unfortunately, their wait times can be 2+ hours 3. Have your daughter answer the security questions differently than on her 2024-2025 application 4. If it's still failing, have your daughter's school financial aid office submit a manual override Also, if you haven't already, remember that the 2023-2024 FAFSA uses your 2021 tax information, not 2022 like the newer application.

•Thank you for your expert advice! I hadn't thought about the verification hold possibility or the security questions. We'll try changing how we answer those. And thanks for the reminder about using 2021 tax info - I actually had pulled 2022 documents by mistake!

•Yes, tried that on multiple browsers. Even used my husband's laptop that had never been used for FAFSA before. Still giving the same error about her birthdate being incorrect.

I've been dealing with FAFSA issues for WEEKS trying to reach someone. After getting disconnected 9 times, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual FAFSA agent in about 10 minutes. They have this system that holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is ready. They helped me fix a similar verification error on my daughter's application. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Might be worth trying if you can't get the online system to work. The agent I spoke with was able to manually verify my daughter's information and clear the error on our account.

•is that thing legit? seems sketchy to use a service just to talk to fafsa...

•Yeah, it's legit. It's basically just a callback service that holds your place in the phone queue so you don't have to stay on hold for hours. The FAFSA folks are impossible to reach otherwise - I tried for days before using it.

•Thanks for sharing this! I've been trying to call FAFSA for two days now and keep getting disconnected. I'll check out that video demo and might give it a try if I can't resolve this through the other suggestions. At this point I just need to talk to a real person who can tell me what's going on with her account.

This exact thing happened to me with my son's applications! It was driving me CRAZY. Turns out the problem wasn't his birthdate at all - it was because his high school had submitted his name to the FAFSA system with his middle name included, but we were applying with just his first and last name. Once we added his middle name exactly as the high school had it, the system accepted everything. Maybe check with your daughter's high school counselor to see how they submitted her info to the FAFSA system?

•What a weird glitch! I would never have thought to check with her high school. I'll definitely reach out to her counselor tomorrow. Her school did some kind of batch submission of senior data to FAFSA last fall, so this could definitely be the issue.

Any luck resolving this? One other thing to check - make sure the parent info (your name, SSN, etc.) is entered EXACTLY the same on both the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 forms. Sometimes these validation errors happen because of parent data mismatches, not student information.

•Update: We got it resolved! It turned out to be the craziest thing - her high school had recorded her birth month incorrectly in their system (they had March instead of May). When they sent the batch data to the federal student aid system, it created this conflict. I had to have her high school update their records, then wait 48 hours, and finally the 2023-2024 FAFSA went through. Thanks everyone for your help!
