FAFSA asset page glitch finally fixed - got through after weeks of being stuck!
Anyone else been stuck on the Assets page for DAYS?? I've been trying to complete my son's 2025-2026 FAFSA for almost 3 weeks and kept hitting a wall on the Assets section. The page would either freeze or give me that stupid error message about 'information not saved' when I tried to proceed. No matter what browser I tried or how many times I cleared cookies, nothing worked! Just wanted to share some hope - about an hour ago I tried again and MIRACULOUSLY it actually worked! I was able to fill in all the asset info, proceed to the next page, and finally submit the whole application. My son just got an email with his estimated SAI score of 4200. I'm not celebrating yet though... says "in review" on the status page. After all the glitches so far, I'm worried something else will go wrong. Has anyone who got past this asset page issue actually received their official aid determination? I've already had to take 2 days off work dealing with this nightmare application!

•Good luck! Try using Microsoft Edge if you've been using Chrome. That's what finally worked for me after trying everything else.

The asset page issue has been a common problem this application cycle. The FSA office acknowledged it's a known bug affecting approximately 15% of applicants, particularly those with multiple bank accounts or investment assets. A few things that might help others still struggling: 1. Enter asset values without commas or dollar signs 2. Try completing this section between 6-9am EST when server traffic is lowest 3. If you have investment properties, enter them individually rather than as a sum 4. Don't use the back button during the assets section - start fresh if you need to make changes Once you receive the SAI email, the major hurdles are typically cleared. The "in review" status is normal and usually resolves within 5-7 business days without further action needed.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I didn't know about the commas thing - I was definitely using those. Maybe that's why it finally worked when I tried again...I was so frustrated I just typed the numbers without formatting. Do you know if the "in review" status means they're verifying my information or is it just standard processing?

I went through the exact same issue last week! The assets page is definitely glitched in this application cycle. After you get past this stage and receive the estimated SAI, you're mostly in the clear. The "in review" status is just the standard processing period where they cross-reference your information with IRS data. One important thing to note - the estimated SAI you received might change slightly after final processing, but usually not by more than a few hundred dollars unless there's a major data verification issue. My daughter's went from 3800 to 3950 after final processing. Also, make sure your son logs in separately to check if he's been selected for verification. About 30% of applicants get selected randomly, and it's better to know sooner rather than later.

•That verification selection is EVIL. My daughter got selected and we had to send in like 20 different documents. Took an extra 6 weeks to process her FAFSA ugh.

I had to file a formal complaint to finally get past this issue! Filled out that stupid asset page 7 TIMES!! Kept getting stuck in the same place every time. The whole system is designed to make it hard for people to get financial aid. The preliminary SAI you got will probably change - mine went up by $1,200 after their "review" which conveniently made me ineligible for the grant I was counting on. They claim it's just "data verification" but they're really just looking for ways to give you less money! THIS WHOLE PROCESS IS DESIGNED TO FAIL PEOPLE!

•While I understand your frustration with the technical issues, the SAI changes are typically due to automated data matching with IRS records, not manual manipulation. If your SAI increased substantially, it's worth checking if there was a discrepancy between reported income/assets and what appeared in your linked tax records. You can request a formal review if you believe there's an error.

If anyone is still struggling with getting through to a real person at FSA to fix these issues, I had success using Claimyr to get past the phone wait. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ. It saved me from listening to that hold music for hours and actually got me to a human who helped fix the asset page glitch on my daughter's application. The agent told me they're prioritizing cases where people report being stuck on specific pages for more than 5 days. If the issue continues, make sure to specifically mention how long you've been trying and the exact error messages you're seeing.

LOL y'all making me nervous about starting my FAFSA this weekend... maybe I should wait another week till they fix more bugs?? This is my first time applying and I'm already confused about the whole assets part anyway. Do I have to report my car?? It's a 2016 honda worth maybe $8000 but it's literally how I get to work and school.

•Don't worry about your car - vehicles you use for transportation aren't counted as assets on the FAFSA. You only need to report checking/savings accounts, investments, and property other than your primary residence. And don't delay your application - earlier submission often means better aid packages since some funding is first-come, first-served.

Omg same here!! I was stuck on assets for TWO WEEKS trying to finish my daughters application. I kept getting that stupid error message too! Finally got through yesterday morning and her SAI came back at 2400. That means she'll get a Pell Grant right???

•With an SAI of 2400 she should definitely qualify for Pell! For 2025-2026 any SAI under 6000 gets you at least partial Pell Grant. Under 3000 usually means max Pell which is around $7,500 this year I think. BUT watch that number carefully! They have a habit of changing it during processing!!!

i had this same issue last year with the 2024-2025 fafsa. got stuck on a different page (the parent contributor one) but same deal - kept freezing and not saving info. ended up having to completely restart my application THREE TIMES. so frustrating. at least it seems like they're fixing things faster this cycle.

•That's actually reassuring to hear they're improving the process. Did your final aid package match closely with the estimated SAI you received? I'm trying to figure out if we can actually rely on this number for planning purposes.

Quick update for everyone - the Department of Education just released a statement acknowledging the Assets page issue. They've deployed a fix as of yesterday evening, which explains why some of you are suddenly able to get through. They're also automatically reviewing applications that have been stuck in this stage for more than 10 days. Regarding the SAI number you received - that's the Student Aid Index that replaced the old EFC. This number is used by colleges to determine your aid eligibility. With an SAI of 4200, you'd likely qualify for partial Pell Grant funding (assuming no verification issues), and most state grants would be available to you as well. The "in review" status simply means they're matching your self-reported information with IRS data through the automated data retrieval system. This typically takes 3-7 business days, but shouldn't require any action on your part unless you're selected for verification.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! It's such a relief to hear they're actually acknowledging the problem. I wish they'd communicate better about these issues instead of leaving us all in the dark. I'll wait for the final processing before getting too excited about the aid possibilities.
