FAFSA Contributor signature page error across multiple devices - anyone else stuck?

I'm losing my mind with this FAFSA form! I finally got to the Contributor signature page after days of gathering all our tax documents and W-2s. When I press "continue" I just get a weird error message with no explanation. I've tried 5 different computers and devices thinking it was my end (my iMac, my daughter's MacBook, my husband's Dell laptop, my iPad, and even my phone). Same error on all of them! I spent 45 minutes on hold with FSA and when I finally got someone, they just said "it might be your browser" without any real solution. I've tried Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Still nothing works! Has anyone else hit this wall with the Contributor signature page? Did you find any workaround? My daughter's college priority deadline is in 3 weeks and I'm panicking that we won't get her SAI score in time. 😩

Ugh same thing happened to me last week! The FAFSA site is SO glitchy this year with all the new changes. What worked for me was clearing ALL cookies and cache, then using Chrome in incognito mode. Something about the site doesn't play nice with saved browser data.

Thanks, I'll try incognito mode right now. Did you have to start the whole application over again or were you able to pick up where you left off?

I'm a financial aid counselor at a community college, and we've been seeing this specific error a lot with the 2025-2026 FAFSA. It's usually related to one of three things: 1) Browser cache/cookies (try incognito/private browsing) 2) A mismatch between the contributor information and what's in the IRS database 3) A server-side issue with the FSA system If clearing cache doesn't work, double-check that all contributor information (name, DOB, SSN) EXACTLY matches tax records. Even a single misplaced hyphen or middle initial can cause this error. If nothing works after that, you might need to try completing the signature process during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening).

Thank you so much for this detailed help! I'm going to try the incognito mode first, then double-check all our information. I never would have thought a hyphen could cause such problems. Do you know if there's a specific time the system is least busy? Like maybe 5am?

In my experience, the FAFSA system tends to have the least traffic between 4:30-6:30am Eastern Time and after 10pm. Weekends are generally better than weekdays. And yes, it's incredible how sensitive the system is to exact formatting matches with IRS records - I've seen cases where someone's legal name is "Robert" but they go by "Bob" on everything, and that simple difference caused weeks of verification headaches.

bro the whole FAFSA system is trash this year lol. i had same problem but with the student signature part. kept getting kicked out. i just gave up for like 3 days then tried again and randomly it worked?? no idea why. maybe just wait a bit

Ugh that's so frustrating but also kind of a relief to hear it's not just me. I'm worried about waiting since we have that deadline coming up, but maybe I'll try again at a weird hour like 5am tomorrow.

This is a known issue with the signature pages in the 2025-2026 FAFSA. I work in financial aid at a university, and we've been tracking this problem since the new form launched. The Department of Education is aware of it, but their fix timeline is unclear. Here's what I recommend: 1. Try using Microsoft Edge in InPrivate mode with all extensions disabled 2. Make sure you're entering the contributor's FSA ID exactly as it was created 3. Verify that the contributor's name matches their Social Security card precisely 4. If you're using autofill in your browser, turn it off If those steps don't work, your daughter should contact her college's financial aid office directly. Many schools have processes in place to accommodate students affected by these technical issues, especially for priority deadlines.

Thank you so much for these specific tips! We'll definitely try Edge next - that's the one browser we didn't try in depth. I'll also double-check the FSA ID. Do you happen to know if the colleges are being understanding about these technical delays? I'm so worried about missing the priority deadline.

Most colleges are being very understanding about these technical issues since they're so widespread. I recommend having your daughter email her school's financial aid office now to document that you're actively trying to complete the FAFSA but encountering system errors. She should include screenshots of the error messages if possible. This creates a record that she was attempting to meet the deadline despite the technical difficulties. Many schools are offering deadline extensions or provisional aid packages for affected students this year.

I got stuck on the EXACT same page!!! So frustrating!!! I tried EVERYTHING for TWO WEEKS and couldn't get past it. What finally worked was calling FSA directly using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). Instead of waiting on hold forever, they got me connected to an actual human at FSA in about 15 minutes who walked me through fixing the issue on my account. Apparently there was some weird flag on my account because I had attempted to fill out the form too many times. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ Saved me HOURS of frustration and we finally got the application submitted!

Thank you for this suggestion! I'll try the browser fixes first, but if those don't work, I'll definitely look into this. I already wasted almost an hour on hold today only to get unhelpful advice, so anything that can save time would be worth it at this point.

is that service legit? never heard of it before. seems sketchy to pay someone just to talk to fafsa

have u tried turning off all ur popup blockers and ad blockers? my son had same issue and that fixed it. something about the signature page uses popups or something and if ur blocker is on it just gives error.

I didn't think of that! I do have ad blockers installed on most of our browsers. I'll definitely try disabling those tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!

The FAFSA system this year is complete garbage. They rushed out all these "simplification" changes without proper testing and now students are paying the price. I've been trying to help my nephew with his application for WEEKS and we keep hitting different errors. The signature page issue is especially bad because it's literally the last step before submission, so you think you're done and then... ERROR. I complained to my congressman about it and surprisingly his office responded saying they've received hundreds of similar complaints and are pressuring the Department of Education to extend all financial aid deadlines this year. Maybe we should all be contacting our representatives about this disaster.

That's actually a great idea. I hadn't thought about contacting our representative, but you're right - this is a systemic issue that's affecting so many students. I'm going to do that tomorrow. Can't hurt to add another voice to the complaints!

yeah the "simplified" fafsa is like 10x worse than before lmaooo. whoever designed this needs to be fired fr

UPDATE: Finally got it to work! After trying basically everything suggested here, what finally worked was: 1. Using Microsoft Edge in InPrivate mode (thanks to the financial aid advisor who suggested this!) 2. Turning off my ad blocker (great tip from the parent who mentioned popup blockers) 3. Doing it at 5:30am when the system wasn't busy We got all the way through and have our confirmation email! Our SAI score was immediately available too. Now I'm going to help my daughter email her schools to explain the delay just to be safe. Thank you all so much for your help - I was seriously ready to throw my computer out the window!

Excellent news! I'm glad you got it resolved. That 5:30am timing definitely helps with the FAFSA system performance. Smart move to still contact the schools - it's always good to document these situations even after they're resolved.
