FAFSA 2024-2025 parent portal only showing past loans but not current application - help!

Is anyone else struggling with the 2024-2025 FAFSA parent portal? I'm trying to help my daughter complete her application, but when I log in as a parent contributor, I can only see my old student loans (which I paid off years ago!) but nothing for the current 2024-2025 application. The system shows my history through 2023-2024, but there's nothing about the current application cycle. My daughter says she added me as a contributor and I got the email, but when I log in there's nothing there for me to complete. I've tried logging out and back in multiple times, cleared my browser cache, and even tried a different device. Still nothing! The deadline is coming up soon and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone dealt with this issue or know how to fix it?

I had the EXACT same problem last month! For me, the issue was that my daughter had entered my email address slightly wrong when adding me as a contributor (she typed gmail.con instead of gmail.com). Check with your daughter to make sure the email she used to add you matches your FSA ID email exactly. If there's even a tiny mismatch, the system won't connect properly but doesn't give you a clear error message.

Hmm, I'll definitely check that. Although I did receive the email invitation, so I assumed the email was correct? But maybe there's another mismatch somewhere. Thanks for the suggestion!

Sometimes the FAFSA site gets super glitchy during high-traffic periods. My son's 2024-25 application kept disappearing and reappearing for like 3 weeks. Try logging in really early in the morning (like 5am) or late at night when fewer people are on the system. Worked for me!

THIS!! The website is always breaking, I had to log in at 11pm to get mine to work right. They need better servers or something smh

There are a few technical issues that could be causing this problem: 1. The student may need to completely finish the "Add Contributor" process on their end. After initially adding you, they need to go back and check that the invitation was properly sent. 2. There might be a mismatch between your FSA ID information and the information your daughter entered when adding you as a contributor. The name, birth date, SSN, and email all need to match exactly. 3. There's a known issue where parent contributors who were previously FAFSA applicants themselves sometimes experience this portal display problem. Try this fix: go to your FSA ID profile settings and verify all your personal information is current, then log out completely, wait 30 minutes, and log back in. 4. If you're still having trouble, your daughter should log in and check her contributor management page to see if it shows you've accepted the invitation or if it's still pending. These FAFSA technical issues are frustrating but usually fixable with these steps!

Thank you so much for these detailed suggestions! I think #3 might be the issue since I did complete my own FAFSA years ago for grad school. I'll try updating my profile information and see if that helps. Really appreciate the thorough response!

The new FAFSA system is TERRIBLE!!! I've been trying to help my twins with their applications and it's been nothing but problems. Can't see their info, random errors, getting logged out. Called the help number and waited TWO HOURS only to get disconnected. Then waited ANOTHER hour and the person had no idea how to help. This system was supposed to be "simplified" but it's worse than ever. I'm so fed up with this garbage. My kids might miss out on thousands in financial aid because the government can't build a functioning website in 2024!

I feel your frustration! After multiple failed attempts to reach someone at Federal Student Aid, I tried using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and finally got through to a real person at FSA in about 10 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/TbC8dZQWYNQ The agent was able to see that there was a technical issue with my parent contributor account and fixed it on their end. Definitely worth it when you're dealing with these frustrating FAFSA glitches and can't afford to wait weeks for help.

UPDATE: I think I figured it out! After trying everything suggested here (thank you all!), I discovered that my daughter actually needed to complete more of her section before my parent section would fully activate. Even though I got the invitation email, her application wasn't at the right stage yet. She needed to complete the "Demographic Information" section completely before my parent contribution section became accessible. After she finished that part, I logged in again and could finally see the 2024-2025 application! Just sharing in case anyone else runs into this issue. The system doesn't make this clear AT ALL.

Thanks for coming back to share the solution! This is actually a new workflow in the 2024-2025 FAFSA that's causing confusion for many families. The student section must reach a certain completion threshold before parent sections fully activate, even though invitations are sent earlier in the process. Glad you got it working!

My son had the same issue last week but it randomly fixed itself after a few days without us doing anything. Maybe just a glitch in the matrix lol

One more thing to check - make sure your FSA ID wasn't created too recently. There's a 1-3 day processing period before a new FSA ID becomes fully functional with all the systems. If you created or updated your FSA ID within the last few days, that could be contributing to the problem.

That's good to know! My FSA ID is actually pretty old (from when I did grad school), but I did recently update my address. Maybe that triggered some kind of processing delay.
