Why is my Washington ESD unemployment claim on hold - need answers
My unemployment claim has been on hold for two weeks now and I have no idea what's going on. I filed my initial claim about a month ago, was getting payments for a few weeks, then suddenly everything stopped. When I log into my account it just says 'claim on hold - pending review' but doesn't give any details about what they're reviewing or how long it will take. I haven't received any letters or emails explaining why this happened. I've been filing my weekly claims like normal but obviously not getting paid. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm starting to panic because rent is due next week.

This is really common unfortunately. Washington ESD puts claims on hold for various reasons - could be an employer dispute, wage verification issues, or they might need additional documentation from you. Check your correspondence inbox in your online account thoroughly, sometimes notices get buried there.

•I checked everywhere in my account and there's literally nothing. No pending issues, no correspondence, nothing. It's so frustrating.

•That's weird. Usually there's at least some indication of what they need. You definitely need to call them to find out what's going on.

same thing happened to me last month!! took forever to get through to someone on the phone but they told me my previous employer had disputed my claim. I had no idea they could do that weeks after I was already approved

•Oh no, how long did it take to resolve once you found out what the issue was?

•about 3 weeks total from when it went on hold to when payments resumed. but at least I got all the back pay

You absolutely need to call Washington ESD directly to find out what's causing the hold. The automated system won't give you the details you need. I know it's nearly impossible to get through on the phone normally, but I recently discovered this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to a real person at Washington ESD within minutes. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works.

•I've never heard of that service before. Is it legit? I'm willing to try anything at this point because I can't get through on my own.

•Yeah it's totally legitimate. They basically handle the calling and waiting for you, then connect you when an agent picks up. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through myself.

•That sounds too good to be true. How much does something like that cost?

•I'd rather not get into pricing here but it was worth every penny for the time it saved me. The peace of mind of actually talking to someone was huge.

There are several reasons Washington ESD might put your claim on hold: 1) Identity verification issues 2) Work search requirement problems 3) Employer protests 4) Wage discrepancies 5) Eligibility questions. Without calling them, you won't know which one applies to your situation.

•I've been doing my work searches every week and reporting them properly. My identity was already verified when I first applied. This is so confusing.

•It could still be an employer protest that happened after your initial approval. That's actually pretty common - employers sometimes don't respond to the initial notice but then dispute later.

This is exactly why I hate dealing with Washington ESD. They put your claim on hold and then make it impossible to find out why. It's like they want people to just give up and stop claiming benefits.

•I feel the same way. The whole system seems designed to frustrate people into giving up.

•I understand the frustration but there are usually legitimate reasons for holds. The problem is just the communication and how hard it is to get information.

Check if you have any pending determinations in your account. Sometimes they show up in weird places in the system.

Sophia Clark
•Where exactly would I look for that? I've been through every section of my account.

•Look under 'Claim Status' and then 'Determinations' - sometimes there's stuff there that doesn't show up in the main dashboard.

My claim was on hold for identity verification even though I had already verified my identity. Turned out they needed additional documents I had no idea about. Calling was the only way to find out.

Sophia Clark
•What kind of additional documents did they need?

•They wanted pay stubs from my last employer to verify my wages matched what was reported. Took about a week to process once I uploaded them.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My claim has been on hold for 10 days with no explanation. I've called probably 50 times and either get busy signals or get disconnected after waiting forever.

•This is so ridiculous. How are we supposed to survive while they take their sweet time figuring things out?

•This is exactly why I used Claimyr - I was getting nowhere with regular calling. Might be worth checking out their service.

Have you tried calling first thing in the morning? I usually have better luck getting through around 8 AM when they first open.

•I've tried calling at all different times. Early morning, late morning, lunch time, nothing works.

•Yeah the phone system is definitely broken. Keep trying though, eventually you'll get through.

Could be a computer glitch too. Sometimes their system just randomly puts claims on hold for no real reason and it has to be manually fixed by an agent.

Sophia Clark
•That would be just my luck. A computer error that I have to suffer for because I can't get anyone on the phone.

Katherine Harris
•I've seen that happen before. Usually gets resolved quickly once you actually talk to someone who can look at your account.

Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while it's on hold. If you stop filing, you could lose benefits for those weeks even after the hold is resolved.
0 coins
Sophia Clark
•Yeah I've been doing that. At least the system still lets me file them, just not getting paid obviously.

Mohammed Khan
•Good, that's the most important thing. You should get back pay for all those weeks once the hold is lifted.

I had a similar situation and it turned out my employer had sent in some paperwork disputing my reason for leaving. Even though I quit for good cause, they claimed I was fired. Had to provide documentation to prove my side of the story.
0 coins
Sophia Clark
•How did you find out that's what was happening? Did someone finally tell you when you called?
0 coins
Gavin King
•Yes, once I got through to an agent they could see the employer dispute in the system and explain exactly what I needed to do to resolve it.

This happened to my friend last year. Her claim was on hold for 3 weeks because of a wage verification issue. The frustrating part is that it was Washington ESD's error - they had the wrong information in their system.

Sophia Clark
•That's what I'm worried about. What if it's their mistake and I'm suffering for it?

Nathan Kim
•She did get all her back pay eventually, but yeah it was stressful. Definitely try to get through to someone as soon as possible.

Whatever you do, don't stop filing your weekly claims. I made that mistake once thinking it didn't matter since I wasn't getting paid anyway. Lost 2 weeks of benefits that I could never get back.
0 coins
Sophia Clark
•Wow, they really don't give you any breaks do they? I'll definitely keep filing.
0 coins
Eleanor Foster
•Nope, the system is pretty unforgiving about stuff like that. Better to be safe and keep filing even if it feels pointless.

I used Claimyr about a month ago when I couldn't get through to Washington ESD about my adjudication issue. Honestly, it was a lifesaver. Got connected to an agent in less than 10 minutes when I had been trying for weeks on my own.

•At this point I'm seriously considering it. I can't afford to wait much longer for answers.

•I was skeptical at first too, but when you're desperate you'll try anything. Turned out to be exactly what I needed.

The hold could also be related to your work search activities. Even if you're reporting them, maybe there's an issue with how you're documenting them or the types of jobs you're applying for.

Sophia Clark
•I've been really careful about my work searches. Using WorkSourceWA and everything. But maybe there's something I'm missing?
0 coins
Kai Rivera
•It's possible. Sometimes they want more specific information about your job search efforts. An agent would be able to tell you exactly what they're looking for.

Just went through this exact same thing 2 months ago. Claim was on hold for employer dispute. Took 4 weeks to resolve but I got all my back pay. The key is getting through to someone who can actually look at your account and tell you what's wrong.

Sophia Clark
•4 weeks?! I don't know if I can wait that long. My savings are already running low.

Anna Stewart
•I know it's tough, but once you know what the issue is, you can at least work on resolving it. The worst part is not knowing what's wrong.

Have you tried reaching out to your state representative's office? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape with Washington ESD issues.
0 coins
Sophia Clark
•I hadn't thought of that. Do they actually help with unemployment issues?
0 coins
Layla Sanders
•Yes, their constituent services departments often help people navigate state agency problems. Might be worth a try if you can't get through to Washington ESD directly.

UPDATE: I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Turns out my employer did dispute my claim saying I was fired for misconduct, which is completely false. Now I have to provide documentation to prove otherwise. At least I know what I'm dealing with now. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Joshua Wood
•Glad you were able to get answers! That's exactly what I went through. Once you provide your side of the story with documentation, it should get resolved pretty quickly.

•See, I told you Claimyr was worth it! At least now you can move forward instead of being stuck in limbo.

•Good luck with the documentation. Make sure to include anything that shows you quit for good cause or that the misconduct claim is false. Pay stubs, emails, witness statements, whatever you have.

•Thanks everyone. I have emails from my supervisor about the issues I was dealing with, so hopefully that will be enough to prove my case.
