When does unemployment pay in Washington - need to know payment schedule
I just got approved for unemployment benefits through Washington ESD after waiting 3 weeks for adjudication. My claim shows active now but I'm confused about when I'll actually receive payments. I filed my first weekly claim on Tuesday and it says processed but no money yet. When does Washington ESD typically send out payments? Is there a specific day of the week they process everything? I need to plan for rent next week and want to know if I should expect the deposit by then.

Washington ESD processes payments on Wednesdays typically. If you filed your weekly claim by Sunday night, you should see the deposit in your account by Thursday or Friday depending on your bank. First payments sometimes take an extra day or two to process through the system.

•Thanks! So if I filed Tuesday does that mean I have to wait until next week's cycle?

•No, as long as you filed for the correct week ending date, it should still process this Wednesday. Check your payment history in your SecureAccess Washington account to see the status.

•Good to know! Did you get direct deposit or the debit card?

•direct deposit is faster, the debit card can take longer sometimes

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD to check on payment status, I found claimyr.com really helpful. They have a service that calls ESD for you and gets you connected to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. I used it last month when my payments were delayed and got answers the same day instead of spending hours trying to get through.

•How much does that cost? Seems like we shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to ESD about our own benefits.

•I understand the frustration but honestly it was worth it for me. Saved me literally days of calling and getting hung up on. Sometimes you just need answers fast.

•I've heard about this service too. My cousin used it when her adjudication was taking forever. She said it actually worked and got her connected within a few hours.

WEDNESDAY IS PAYMENT DAY but don't expect it to be consistent! I've been on unemployment for 6 months and sometimes payments come Tuesday, sometimes Friday. The system is completely unpredictable. One week I didn't get paid until the following Monday with no explanation.

•That's so stressful when you're budgeting paycheck to paycheck! Did you ever find out why some payments were delayed?

•NOPE! Washington ESD never explains anything. They just process when they process. Have backup plans for everything.

For new claimants, here's the typical Washington ESD payment schedule: Weekly claims must be filed by 11:59 PM on the Sunday following the week you're claiming. ESD processes payments on Wednesdays. Direct deposits typically arrive Thursday-Friday, debit cards can take 1-2 additional business days. First payments may take longer due to additional verification steps.

•This is super helpful! So I should always file by Sunday night to get paid that week?
0 coins
Amara Adebayo
•Exactly. If you miss the Sunday deadline, your claim goes to the next processing cycle, which means waiting another full week for payment.

•What if Sunday is a holiday? Does the deadline change?

Amara Adebayo
•The system is automated so the deadline stays the same even on holidays. Always file by Sunday 11:59 PM to be safe.

I'm so confused about this whole process. I filed my claim 2 weeks ago and it's still showing pending. Should I keep filing weekly claims even though I haven't been paid yet? What if I mess something up and they say I wasn't supposed to file?

•Yes, keep filing your weekly claims even while pending! If you stop filing, it can delay your payments even more once you're approved. The key is maintaining your claim continuously.

•Okay thank you. I was worried I was doing something wrong by continuing to file.

My experience has been pretty consistent - file Sunday night, payment shows up Friday morning. Been collecting for 4 months now. The key is making sure you file for the right week ending date and complete all the job search requirements.

•What happens if you forget to do the job search requirements for a week?

Sofia Gomez
•They can deny that week's payment or even disqualify you if it happens repeatedly. Always keep your job search log updated in WorkSourceWA.

The timing really depends on your bank too. I have a credit union and get payments Wednesday afternoon, but my friend with Bank of America doesn't get hers until Friday. Direct deposit timing varies by financial institution.

•yeah my bank is slow too, takes until friday usually

•I have Chase so hopefully it's not too slow. Really need this payment by next Friday for rent.

If your payment seems delayed beyond the normal timeframe, definitely check with Washington ESD. Sometimes there are issues with your weekly claim that need to be resolved. I used that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier when I had a payment delay - turned out there was a flag on my account that needed to be cleared by an agent.

•What kind of flag was it? I'm worried there might be something wrong with my claim that I don't know about.

Fatima Al-Mansour
•In my case it was related to my job search requirements - the system flagged that I hadn't logged enough activities even though I had. The agent was able to see my WorkSourceWA log and clear it immediately.

Just want to add - if you're expecting your first payment and it doesn't come when expected, DON'T PANIC immediately. Washington ESD often has delays for new claims while they do final verifications. But after 7-10 business days with no payment, then you need to call them.

•That's reassuring, thank you. I'll give it until next Friday before I worry too much.

•How do you actually get through to them on the phone though? I've tried calling so many times and just get disconnected.

•That's exactly why I used Claimyr - they handle all the calling and waiting for you. Much less stressful than spending hours trying to get through yourself.

One thing to watch out for - make sure your address is correct in your Washington ESD account. I had a friend whose payments were delayed because her address was wrong and they were trying to mail her something for verification.

•Good point! I'll double check that in my SecureAccess Washington account.

For budgeting purposes, here's what to expect: Your first payment will be for any eligible weeks from when you filed your initial claim. Subsequent payments are weekly as long as you continue filing and meet requirements. Payment amounts include your weekly benefit amount plus any federal or state supplements that may apply.

PixelWarrior
•Will I get paid for those 3 weeks while my claim was in adjudication?
0 coins
Amara Adebayo
•Yes, as long as you filed weekly claims during that time and met all eligibility requirements, you should receive backpay for those weeks.

protip: set up text alerts in your esd account so you know when payments are processed. saves you from checking every day

•I didn't know you could do that! Where do you find that setting?

•in your account settings under notifications i think

Just to manage expectations - your first payment might be larger than usual if you're getting backpay, but don't expect that amount every week. Regular weekly payments will be just your weekly benefit amount.
0 coins
PixelWarrior
•That makes sense. Do they tell you exactly how much to expect or do you just have to wait and see?
0 coins
Sofia Gomez
•Your weekly benefit amount should be listed in your determination letter. The payment history section also shows exactly what you're getting paid for each week.

Has anyone had issues with the KeyBank debit card? I'm thinking of switching to direct deposit because I've heard the card can have problems.

StormChaser
•THE DEBIT CARD IS TERRIBLE! Fees for everything and it gets declined randomly. Switch to direct deposit ASAP.

Amara Adebayo
•Direct deposit is definitely more reliable and faster. You can change your payment method in your SecureAccess Washington account under payment settings.

One last tip - if you ever need to speak with someone at Washington ESD about payment issues or anything else, I can't recommend Claimyr enough. It's so much better than the stress of trying to get through on your own. The peace of mind alone is worth it when you're dealing with unemployment.

To summarize for the original poster: File weekly claims by Sunday 11:59 PM, payments typically process Wednesday and arrive Thursday-Friday via direct deposit. First payments may take longer. Keep filing even while claims are pending. Contact ESD if payments are delayed beyond normal timeframes.
