How long does unemployment take to process in Washington ESD - still waiting after 2 weeks
Filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back. My claim status just shows 'under review' and I'm getting worried about making rent next month. Is this normal processing time or should I be concerned? I lost my job at a manufacturing plant and thought this would be pretty straightforward since it was a layoff.

Two weeks is actually pretty typical for initial processing. Washington ESD has to verify your employment history and wages with your previous employer. The whole process usually takes 2-4 weeks if there are no complications.

•That's somewhat reassuring. Do you know if they send any updates during the process or do you just have to wait?

•You should get correspondence through your SecureAccess Washington account. Check that regularly rather than waiting for mail.

I've been going through the same thing and it's been 3 weeks for me. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you have bills due. From what I've read, if it goes into adjudication it can take even longer.

•What triggers adjudication? I keep seeing that term but don't really understand what it means.

•Adjudication happens when there's something unclear about your claim - like if you quit vs were laid off, or if there are questions about your availability to work.

I actually found a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to Washington ESD when I was stuck in processing limbo. They basically handle the phone calls for you since it's impossible to get through on your own. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows exactly how it works.

•Is that legitimate? Sounds too good to be true with how impossible it is to reach anyone at Washington ESD.

•Yeah it's real. I was skeptical too but they actually got me connected to a real person who could explain what was holding up my claim. Saved me weeks of calling.

•Might have to look into that if this drags on much longer. Thanks for the tip!

ugh this system is so broken. took me 6 weeks to get approved and that was WITH calling every single day. washington esd is a joke

•Six weeks is definitely longer than average. Did you end up getting backpay for the full period?

•yeah got backpay but the stress wasnt worth it. almost lost my apartment

The processing time really depends on your specific situation. Simple layoffs usually process faster than voluntary quits or terminations for cause. Since you mentioned it was a layoff, you're probably in the faster track.

•That makes sense. It was definitely a layoff due to reduced orders, so hopefully that helps speed things up.

•Make sure you have your layoff notice or any documentation from your employer ready in case they request it during processing.

Just wanted to chime in that mine took exactly 3 weeks and then I got approved all at once. The waiting is terrible but try not to stress too much if you know you qualify.

•Thanks for sharing your timeline! That gives me hope that mine might come through soon.

I'm on week 5 and still nothing. Been trying to call Washington ESD every day but can never get through. Starting to think I should have applied somewhere else... oh wait, this is the only option lol

•Five weeks is getting into problem territory. Have you tried that Claimyr service I mentioned? They might be able to find out what's causing the delay.

•I'll check it out. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get some answers.

Processing times got way better after they updated their systems post-COVID. Used to be 6-8 weeks regularly, now it's usually 2-4 weeks for straightforward cases.

•That's good to know. I remember horror stories from 2020 about people waiting months.

•Yeah those days were brutal. The system is much more efficient now, though still not perfect.

Make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even while waiting for initial approval. That's a common mistake that can delay your first payment.

•Oh wow, I didn't realize I was supposed to be doing that already. I thought I had to wait for approval first.

•Nope, you should file starting the week after you submit your initial claim. Check your Washington ESD account to see if you can file now.

•This is such an important point! I made this mistake and it cost me a week of benefits.

Two weeks isn't bad at all. My brother in law works at Washington ESD and says they're actually processing faster than their target times right now. You should hear something soon.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if your claim is taking longer than 3 weeks, there's probably an issue. Could be something simple like they need to verify your identity or something more complex like a question about your separation from work.

•Well that's terrifying. I'm at 3 weeks exactly and haven't heard anything.

•Don't panic yet. The 3-week mark is when I'd start being more proactive about finding out what's going on.

Check your correspondence in your SecureAccess Washington account. Sometimes they send requests for additional information that people miss, which can delay processing significantly.

Keisha Williams
•I've been checking that religiously but nothing new since I filed. Is that a good sign or bad sign?

Anastasia Sokolov
•Usually good - means they have everything they need and you're just in the queue for processing.

The manufacturing sector layoffs are usually pretty clean cut for Washington ESD. Unless there was some weird circumstance around your separation, you should be fine. Just takes time.

Keisha Williams
•No weird circumstances - just lack of orders and they had to cut staff. Pretty standard stuff.

I tried calling Washington ESD for 3 weeks straight before someone told me about Claimyr. Got through to an actual person within 2 days and found out my claim was approved but stuck in the payment system. Sometimes you need that direct contact to get things moving.

•Wow, that's exactly the kind of situation I'm worried about. Glad you found a solution.

•Yeah, definitely worth considering if you hit the 3-week mark without any updates. Peace of mind is worth it.

For what it's worth, my processing took exactly 2 weeks and 3 days. Got my determination letter on a Friday and first payment the following Tuesday. The waiting is anxiety-inducing but the system does work.

•That timeline sounds perfect. Hoping mine follows a similar path!

honestly the whole system needs an overhaul. why does it take weeks to process something that should be automatic? other states do it way faster

Paolo Ricci
•While I agree the system could be better, Washington ESD actually processes claims faster than many other states. The verification process is important to prevent fraud.

•i guess but when youre broke and waiting it doesnt feel fast at all

The key is to stay on top of any requests for information and keep filing your weekly claims. Most delays I've seen are because people miss something in their correspondence or stop filing weekly claims during the waiting period.

•Good advice. I'm definitely going to start filing weekly claims this week since I learned I should have been doing that already.

Two weeks is still within normal range. I'd give it another week before getting seriously worried. The anxiety is real though - I remember checking my account like 10 times a day when I was waiting.

Keisha Williams
•Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing! Obsessively checking and getting disappointed every time.

•Try to limit yourself to checking once a day, maybe in the evening. It'll help with the stress.
