How long does it take for Washington ESD unemployment claim to be approved - still waiting 2 weeks

Filed my unemployment claim with Washington ESD two weeks ago and it's still showing as pending. I've been checking my account daily but there's no update on when it might get approved. I'm starting to worry because I need to pay rent next week. Is this normal? How long does Washington ESD usually take to approve claims? I thought it was supposed to be faster than this.

Two weeks is actually pretty standard for Washington ESD to process initial claims. They have to verify your employment history and wages with your previous employers, which can take time. Most claims get approved within 2-3 weeks unless there are complications.

That's somewhat reassuring. I just wish they'd give better updates on what's happening with the claim.

yeah the waiting is the worst part especially when you dont know whats going on

Have you checked if your claim went into adjudication? That can add several more weeks to the process. Log into your Washington ESD account and look for any pending issues or fact-finding questionnaires you might need to complete.

I don't see anything about adjudication in my account. Just says 'claim pending' with no other details.

That's good - means it's probably just going through normal processing. Keep filing your weekly claims even while it's pending.

I had a similar situation last year and ended up using Claimyr to get through to someone at Washington ESD. The website is claimyr.com and they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call myself.

Is that legitimate? I've never heard of it before. How much does it cost?

Yeah it's real. They basically call Washington ESD for you and get you connected to an actual person. Much better than sitting on hold for hours.

I'm always skeptical of these third-party services but honestly the Washington ESD phone system is so broken that anything has to be better

0 coins

THE SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN! I've been waiting 4 weeks for my claim and Washington ESD keeps giving me the runaround. They say one thing on the phone and something completely different in writing. It's like they don't want to pay people!

Four weeks does seem excessive. Did you get any correspondence about why it's taking so long?

0 coins

Nothing useful. Just generic letters saying they're processing my claim. Meanwhile I'm behind on everything.

mine took exactly 17 days to get approved, just hang in there

That gives me hope! Did you do anything specific or just wait it out?

just waited and kept filing weekly claims like they tell you to

Make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even while your initial claim is pending. If you miss weeks, you could lose benefits for those periods even after your claim gets approved.

This is super important! I missed filing one week thinking my claim wasn't active yet and had to jump through hoops to get that week back.

Good to know. I've been filing every week just to be safe.

washington esd is just slow right now with everything going on they're probably understaffed like everywhere else

They've been understaffed for years, it's not a new problem. The whole system needs an overhaul.

I actually used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it worked great. Got connected to Washington ESD within an hour instead of calling all day. They were able to tell me exactly where my claim stood in the process.

That sounds really helpful. I might try it if I don't hear anything by next week.

How does it work exactly? Do you give them your personal information?

They just need your callback number. Then they call Washington ESD, wait on hold, and call you back when they get an agent on the line. Pretty simple.

Check your eligibility carefully too. Sometimes delays happen because there's an issue with your work history or wages that needs to be resolved first.

I worked the same job for three years until I got laid off, so my work history should be straightforward.

The waiting is awful but try not to panic yet. Two weeks really is normal for Washington ESD processing times. I know it feels forever when you need the money.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll try to be patient a bit longer.

Keep documentation of everything - when you filed, what correspondence you've received, when you file weekly claims. If there are any issues later, having good records helps a lot.

Good advice. I've been taking screenshots of everything just in case.

honestly the whole unemployment system is designed to make you give up and not claim benefits you deserve

While the system has issues, most legitimate claims do get approved eventually. The key is being persistent and following up when needed.

I remember when I filed mine took about 2.5 weeks but then I got a big deposit for all the back weeks at once. Just keep filing those weekly claims!

That's what I'm hoping for - getting all the back pay at once when it finally goes through.

Try calling the customer service line early in the morning around 8 AM. Sometimes you can get through faster then.

I've tried that and still couldn't get through. The lines are always busy no matter what time.

That's exactly why I ended up using Claimyr. They handle all the calling and waiting so you don't have to.

Make sure you're meeting the job search requirements too even while your claim is pending. Washington ESD requires you to search for work and keep a log.

Yeah I've been applying to jobs and keeping track. Better to be prepared when the benefits start.

Two weeks isn't that bad really. I've heard of people waiting over a month, especially if their claim goes into adjudication for any reason.

I really hope mine doesn't go into adjudication. That sounds like it would take forever.

Adjudication usually only happens if there are questions about your separation from work or eligibility. Straightforward layoffs typically don't trigger it.

hang in there it sucks but most claims do get approved eventually unless there's a real problem with eligibility

Thanks everyone for the support and advice. I'll keep checking my account and filing weekly claims. Hopefully I hear something soon.

Good luck! Let us know when you hear back from Washington ESD. It's always good to hear success stories to give hope to others waiting.

I definitely will update once I know something. This thread has been really helpful.
