ESD weekly claim changed - no company names required suddenly?
I just submitted my weekly claim for unemployment and noticed something weird. The system didn't ask me to enter the names of the companies I applied to for my job search activities. Last week and every week before that, I had to put in all company names, but this time it just skipped that part completely. Is this a new change to the ESD system? Or does this mean something's wrong with my claim? I'm worried I did something incorrectly and might get my benefits delayed. Has anyone else experienced this recently?

•Oh thank goodness it's not just me! Did you still get your payment processed normally?

This is actually a recent update to the ESD claims system. They're gradually rolling out changes to simplify the weekly claim process. You'll still need to maintain your job search log with company names and contact information, but you don't have to enter that detailed information every week in the online system anymore. However, be aware that ESD can request your detailed job search records at any time for verification, so keep documenting everything as usual. They're now doing more random audits instead of collecting all the data upfront.

•Wait so we still have to keep track of all company names somewhere else? that seems even MORE confusing. Why wouldn't they just keep the same system??? TYPICAL ESD making things "easier" but actually more complicated!!! 🤦♀️

I went through the same thing two weeks ago and panicked! I called ESD to check if something was wrong but couldn't get through to anyone. After trying for hours and getting disconnected repeatedly, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed it's a system update they're implementing. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 - saved me so much stress!

•Is that service thing legit? Seems weird to pay someone to call unemployment for you...did they need your personal info?

This is part of ESD's 2025 system modernization. You still need to track your work search activities (3 per week) including company names, contact information, application methods, etc. in your personal records. The difference is you now just report the NUMBER of activities in the weekly claim, not the details. Keep your detailed records safe though! If you're selected for a job search review (which happens randomly), you'll need to provide documentation of all your activities. If you can't provide it, you could face an overpayment assessment.

•This is really helpful, thank you! So I should still be keeping my job search log with all the usual details, just not entering them in the weekly claim. That makes sense! Does ESD have a preferred format for keeping these records in case I get audited?

When I was on unemployment last year they changed the system like 3 times in 2 months lol. One week they wanted full job descriptions the next week they didn't even ask where I applied at all. I think they just change things whenever they feel like it honestly.

Yeah it changed for me too. My friend who works at WorkSource said they're trying to reduce the amount of data they process weekly since most people never get audited anyway. Just make sure you keep your own records!!! My cousin got randomly audited last month and they wanted to see EVERYTHING from the past 8 weeks. She almost got disqualified because she hadn't written down phone numbers for two applications.

•OMG this is so stressful!! So now we have to be EXTRA careful with our own records because they're not even checking weekly?? What happens if you get audited and your records don't match exactly what they want? Do they just cut you off completely??

I really appreciate everyone's responses! This clears up a lot. I'm going to create a more detailed spreadsheet for my job search activities going forward to make sure I have everything documented properly. It sounds like this is a system improvement, even if it was confusing at first. Thanks again for the help!
