ESD not processing payment after bank info update - need urgent help reaching a representative

I'm at my wit's end trying to reach someone at ESD! I updated my direct deposit information last week, and now my weekly claim is stuck in limbo. My payment status just says 'pending' instead of the usual 'paid' by now. I'm 100% sure it's because they haven't processed my updated banking info yet, but I can't get through to anyone to fix it! I've been calling the main ESD number every day, sometimes 15-20 times, starting right when they open at 8am. Either I get the dreaded 'high call volume' message or it disconnects me after being on hold for 45 minutes. I'm approved for benefits (been receiving them for 6 weeks now), so this isn't an eligibility issue - it's just a technical problem that needs a quick fix. Does anyone have any insider tricks for actually getting through to a live person? Any special phone numbers or best times to call? I've got rent due next week and really need this back pay plus my regular payments to start flowing correctly again. Really appreciate any advice!

I've been doing 8am sharp but not 8:01 specifically... might be worth a shot! Which 844 number are you referring to? I've only been using the main one on their website.

I went through almost the exact same situation in January. When you update your banking info, there's a verification period that can take 5-7 business days where your payment sits in pending status. If you're seeing 'pending' that actually means the system is working correctly! The good news is you don't need to reach anyone - it should resolve automatically by next week. If it goes longer than 7 business days (so not counting weekends), then you definitely need to reach a rep. In that case, try calling the technical support line instead of the main claims line: 855-682-0785. They're often less swamped.

Thank you! That's a huge relief to know it might just be the verification period. But I'm still nervous because my landlord isn't very flexible. Do you remember if your payment eventually went through to your new account automatically, or did you still need to talk to someone?

Mine went through automatically after 6 business days with no action needed on my part. But I understand needing that peace of mind! If you really need to speak with someone, the most reliable method I've found is using Claimyr. It's a service that holds your place in the ESD phone queue and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration when I had an adjudication issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com.

A few things to try that have worked for me and others: 1. Call exactly at 8:00am but use the claims center number 800-318-6022 2. When it asks for your SSN, enter it slowly - sometimes rushing causes disconnection 3. Try Wednesday or Thursday - Mon/Tue are typically highest volume days 4. Send a secure message through your eServices account explaining the bank change issue 5. If none of this works by Friday, contact your state representative's office - they have liaison contacts at ESD who can escalate Just checking - you did verify that your new banking info appears correctly in the system, right? Sometimes people update it but it doesn't save properly.

Thank you for these detailed tips! Yes, I double-checked my banking info in the system and it shows the correct updated account. I didn't know about contacting my state rep - that's a good backup plan. I'll try the Wednesday calling strategy tomorrow morning and the slow SSN entry. Really appreciate all the help!

this happened 2 me back in november!!! took FOREVER to get fixed. bank changes r super annoying with ESD becuz they got so many fraud problems now. mine took 9 days total then suddenly the $ showed up. but yeah its stressful when ur waiting on rent money and groceries and stuff! one thing - if ur really desperate maybe ask if they can mail u a paper check instead? sometimes thats faster than waiting for the direct deposit verification

9 days?? Ugh, I was hoping it wouldn't take that long but I guess that's better than never. The paper check idea is brilliant - I hadn't even thought of that as an option. I'll definitely ask about that if I manage to get through to someone.

I went through a similar problem with my banking info last year and what no one tells you is there's actually an internal ESD process called "payment verification" that happens whenever banking details change. It's an anti-fraud measure. What's frustrating is they don't explain this anywhere obvious on their website! The verification period ranges from 3-10 business days depending on your bank and claim history. If you've been claiming without issues for 6 weeks already, you're probably on the shorter end of that range. One thing that might help: log into eServices and check your "Notices" section. Sometimes they send a verification notice that requires a response, but the system doesn't alert you properly.

Thank you for explaining that! I just checked my Notices section and don't see anything about verification, but I'll keep checking daily. It's so frustrating that they don't make this clear anywhere on the site. If I'd known about the verification period, I wouldn't be panicking so much!

why dont u just switch back to ur old bank info if its so important to get paid now???

Unfortunately I can't - I closed that account (it was with a bank that started charging monthly fees I couldn't afford while unemployed). So I'm kind of stuck waiting for them to process the new account.

Just wanted to follow up - did your payment go through yet? The banking verification should be complete by now if it's been more than a week.

Yes! The payment finally went through yesterday - took exactly 6 business days like you said. Such a relief! I wish ESD would make this verification period clear on their website instead of leaving us all in the dark. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
