Adjudication date pushed back by ESD - when will I finally get a decision?
So frustrated right now! My adjudication date with ESD just got pushed from March 13th to March 19th. They asked for additional information about my separation from work. I'm taking online classes and for some reason they said they needed to contact my school directly? My former boss told me straight up they're not going to respond to any of ESD's messages and that they plan to fight my unemployment claim every step of the way. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation where your adjudication date keeps changing? Any idea how long after this new date I might actually get a decision? Bills are piling up and I'm starting to panic...

•Did your employer fight it too? Mine is being so petty about this whole thing.

The fact they're requesting additional information is actually a good sign - it means they're actively working on your case. When they contact your school, they're verifying your student status doesn't affect your availability for work (a requirement for UI benefits). As for timeline, once they have all information including verification from your school, decisions typically come within 5-10 business days. Your former employer refusing to respond can actually work in your favor. If they don't provide their side after ESD's attempts to contact them, the adjudicator will make a decision based solely on your information and documentation. Document everything in case you need to appeal.

•Thank you so much, that's really helpful! I was worried their refusal to respond would just drag things out longer. I'll make sure I have copies of everything ready.

Good luck getting an actual timeline from ESD lol. My dates got pushed 3 times and then I got approved out of nowhere on a completely different date. THE SYSTEM IS A MESS!!

If you're taking online classes, make sure you've clarified with ESD that your courses don't interfere with your ability to accept full-time work. This is a common adjudication issue. ESD needs to verify that: 1. Your class schedule is flexible or outside normal work hours 2. You would be willing to quit or modify your school schedule if offered suitable employment 3. You are actively conducting your required 3 job search activities each week Regarding your employer not responding - after a reasonable time (usually 10 business days), adjudicators can proceed with a determination based solely on available information. The new date likely indicates they're waiting for school verification, not employer response. If they need to make additional contact attempts, expect 2-3 more weeks. I'd recommend calling ESD directly to check your claim status and see if there's anything else they need from you to expedite the process.

•I've been trying to call them for days but can't get through! It just disconnects me every time after saying the call volume is too high. Is there any trick to actually getting a human on the phone?

I was in the same boat trying to reach ESD about my adjudication last month. Literally called 30+ times over 3 days and kept getting disconnected. Finally tried Claimyr (claimyr.com) after a friend recommended it - got connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim and what documents they still needed. Got my decision a week later. Might be worth trying if you're desperate to find out what's happening with your claim.

•I'll check this out, thanks! At this point I'd try anything to get some actual answers about my claim.

watch out about the school thing!!! i was taking 2 evening classes when i filed for ui and they almost disqualified me becuz they said i wasnt available enough for work. had to sign a statement saying id drop my classes if i got a job offer tha conflicted with them. make sure you tell them ur classes are flexible!!

•Oh no, I didn't realize that could be a disqualifier! My classes are all online and self-paced so I can do them anytime. Should I call them to make that clear?

Yes, definitely call to clarify that your classes are online and self-paced. That information could expedite your claim decision since availability for work is a major eligibility factor. Self-paced online courses typically don't create availability issues. Regarding your employer fighting the claim - this is actually common. Many employers automatically contest all unemployment claims regardless of circumstances because it affects their experience rating (which impacts their UI tax rate). Based on the timeline you've described, if your new adjudication date is March 19th, you should expect a determination within 2-5 business days after that, assuming they don't need additional information. If your claim is approved, payments for eligible weeks would typically be processed within 48 hours of the determination.

•Thank you! That's helpful to know there's an actual endpoint in sight. I was worried this could drag on for months.

My cousin's adjudication took like 3 months last year but that was because she had worked for two different companies and one of them kept sending in incorrect information. I think if your school confirms everything quickly you should be fine. Good luck!!

Update: I finally got through to ESD today! The adjudicator confirmed they're just waiting for my school to verify my enrollment status, and that my former employer not responding won't hold things up much longer. They said once they hear from the school, they should have a decision within a week. Feeling much more hopeful now!

•That's great news! Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims during this waiting period, even before you get a determination. If approved, you'll only be paid for weeks you've properly filed claims for.
