Check if your county has any local assistance programs too. Some counties have emergency rent/utility assistance even if you don't qualify for other state programs.
I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I had issues with my claim being stuck in adjudication. Really helped me get through to someone at Washington ESD who could actually resolve my problem instead of just giving me the runaround.
Make sure to apply as soon as possible after becoming unemployed. There's no benefit to waiting, and you want to get the process started.
Just remember that each claim has its own benefit year and maximum benefit amount. They don't carry over from previous claims.
this whole conversation is giving me flashbacks to my own nightmare with washington esd last year. the amount of paperwork and phone calls was insane. but i did eventually get my benefits so there is hope!
For what it's worth, I think the Washington ESD website has some good information about eligibility during family leave. It's buried in there somewhere, but it might be worth checking out before you file.
Just want to add that having to choose between work and caring for family shouldn't put you in financial crisis. You did the right thing and Washington state recognizes that with these protections. Fight for what you're entitled to.
One more thing - if Washington ESD denies your initial claim, don't give up! You have the right to appeal and many compelling circumstances cases get approved on appeal even if they're denied initially. The appeals process gives you more opportunity to present your full situation.
Good to know there's a backup plan if the first decision doesn't go my way. How long do you have to file an appeal?

•Yeah, it's not the news I wanted to hear but it's better to know the reality and plan accordingly.

Final thought - make sure you understand the difference between your benefit year ending and exhausting your benefits. They're two different things and the rules are different for each situation.

•Benefit year ending means you've reached the anniversary of when you filed. Exhausting benefits means you've used up all your available weeks or dollar amount. Different rules apply depending on which situation you're in.

•Exactly. And if your benefit year ends but you haven't exhausted your benefits, you typically need to file a new claim rather than continuing the old one.
