For anyone who can't get through to Washington ESD by phone to ask about taxes, Claimyr has been a lifesaver for me. Got connected to an agent in under 10 minutes last week when I had questions about my claim.
Bottom line - unemployment is taxable federally but not in Washington state since we don't have state income tax. Set up the 10% withholding to avoid a surprise at tax time. Simple as that.
Thanks for asking this question OP, I was wondering the same thing but didn't want to look stupid asking about payment timing.
One last thing - keep screenshots of your weekly claim confirmations. If there's ever a payment dispute, having that proof can save you a lot of hassle with Washington ESD.
One more thing - if you quit your job, you might not be eligible for benefits unless you had good cause. They're pretty strict about that.
The bottom line is that most people get somewhere between $300-600 per week depending on what they were earning before. It's not going to replace your full salary but it helps.
One last thing to consider - if you have any appeals or ongoing issues with your LTD carrier, make sure that's resolved before applying for unemployment. You don't want conflicting claims about your ability to work.
For anyone reading this later, I also recommend checking with your state's vocational rehabilitation services. They often have programs that can help bridge the gap between disability and employment, and they understand the unemployment system well.

•Hope it helps! There's definitely more people in our situation than I realized.

The most important thing is being honest on all your forms and applications. Don't try to hide one benefit from the other agency - there's no need to and it could cause problems down the road.

•Absolutely. I plan to be completely transparent with both agencies about my situation.
