Don't overthink this too much. Thousands of people collect both unemployment and disability benefits simultaneously. As long as you report everything honestly and meet the work availability requirements, you should be fine.
If you run into any issues or have questions about specific situations, that Claimyr service that was mentioned earlier really does help cut through the phone tree nightmare. Sometimes talking to an actual Washington ESD rep is the only way to get clear answers for complex situations like this.
Good to know there's a backup option if I can't figure things out through the normal channels. Hopefully I won't need it but nice to have as a safety net.
Update us on how it goes when you file! Always helpful to hear how these situations actually play out.
For what it's worth, even though you missed out on those first few months, unemployment benefits can really help while you're job searching. Don't beat yourself up too much about the timing.
Final reminder for anyone still reading - the deadline to file is one year from when you became unemployed, but you lose benefits for every week you wait. File immediately when you lose your job, not months later like some of us learned the hard way.
The silver lining of high unemployment is that employers and landlords are usually more understanding about employment gaps. They know it's not necessarily your fault when lots of people are out of work.
Bottom line is high unemployment affects the big picture but your individual claim should be processed the same way. Focus on making sure you've provided all required information and keep filing your weekly claims on time.

One thing that confused me at first - you file your initial claim for the week you become unemployed, but then you file weekly claims going forward. So if you lost your job on Wednesday, you'd still file for that full week.

•So the initial claim and weekly claims are different things?

•Right - initial claim establishes your benefit amount and eligibility. Weekly claims are what you file every week to actually receive payments.

Bottom line - if you lost your job through no fault of your own and worked enough in the past year, you probably qualify for unemployment benefits in Washington. The weekly amount varies but it's designed to replace part of your lost income while you find new work.
