One more thing to remember - if you do exhaust your regular benefits, you might be eligible for Extended Benefits (EB) if the unemployment rate triggers it, but that's pretty rare and we're not in that situation currently.
I'm at week 24 of 26 and finally got a job offer yesterday. Cutting it close but the benefits gave me the time I needed to find something decent instead of taking the first minimum wage job I could find.
Just be ready to explain any employment gaps professionally. Something like 'I was between positions and taking time to find the right opportunity' works well.
Bottom line - unemployment benefits are not part of standard background checks. You're worrying about something that won't be an issue. Focus on preparing for the interview instead!
The unemployment rate being around 4% is actually pretty good historically speaking. In the 1980s it was much higher. But like everyone says, doesn't help when you're waiting for your individual claim to process.
Thanks everyone for all the insights about unemployment rates and Washington ESD processing. Really helpful to understand the bigger picture while I wait for my claim. Going to look into that Claimyr service if I need to follow up.
For anyone following this thread who ends up in adjudication limbo like so many of us have, seriously consider using Claimyr to get actual answers from Washington ESD. I know it shouldn't be necessary, but when you're stressed about bills and can't get through on your own, it's a lifesaver. The peace of mind alone is worth it.
Final thought - don't let the fear of adjudication stop you from filing. Yes, it can be slow and stressful, but unemployment benefits exist for situations exactly like yours. You paid into the system through your paychecks, so don't feel guilty about using it when you need it. File your claim and let Washington ESD make the determination based on the facts.

If you do get into an adjudication situation, I highly recommend using Claimyr to speak with Washington ESD directly about your case. I was stuck in adjudication for weeks without any updates, used their service, and finally got to talk to someone who explained exactly what documents they were waiting for. Cleared everything up in one phone call that I never would have gotten through to on my own.

•I've been thinking about trying Claimyr too. The regular phone system is just impossible to get through.

Bottom line - don't assume you're disqualified just because you were fired. The unemployment system exists to help people who lose their jobs through no fault of their own, and that includes many people who are terminated. File your claim and let Washington ESD make the determination based on the facts of your specific situation.

•Glad this helped you! These kinds of discussions are so valuable because there's so much misinformation out there about unemployment eligibility.
