Quick tip - if you run into any issues with your claim or need to talk to someone, I had good luck with a service called Claimyr that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. Saved me a lot of frustration when my claim had some complications.
Apply now and don't second-guess yourself. I've helped several friends through this process and the ones who filed immediately always had smoother experiences than those who waited for various reasons.
if anyone else needs help with Washington ESD questions, that claimyr thing actually worked for me too. got through to someone in like 20 minutes instead of spending hours calling
Both programs also coordinate with other benefits. UI affects things like food stamps, workers comp can affect disability benefits. Important to understand how they interact with other assistance programs.
Thanks everyone for all this advice. I think I need to start documenting everything more carefully and maybe talk to HR first before making any decisions. This has given me a lot to think about.
Also want to add - if you do quit and get denied initially, don't give up. The appeals process exists for a reason and lots of people win on appeal who were denied initially. Just make sure you appeal within the deadline.
Update us when you get your payment! I'm curious to see how long it actually takes. These timelines help other people know what to expect.
The waiting is brutal but try to stay positive. Washington ESD has gotten much better at processing payments compared to a few years ago. Your money is coming!

Just want to echo what others said about filing sooner rather than later. I waited 3 weeks after I lost my job thinking I'd find something quickly, and I basically lost 3 weeks of benefits. The waiting week was eliminated in Washington so you get paid starting with your first week of filing.

•Good decision. Even if you find work quickly, at least you'll have the safety net in place.

•Absolutely right about filing early. Your benefit year starts when you file, so any delay just costs you potential benefits.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! I'm going to gather my documents this weekend and file my claim on Monday. It sounds like with my income level I should qualify for a decent weekly amount that will help while I'm job searching. I'll definitely keep the Claimyr service in mind if I run into any issues getting through to Washington ESD.

•You're making the right choice. Having that weekly benefit takes a lot of pressure off the job search.
