Ask the community...
Yes! The payment just hit our account this morning, right on schedule. Status still shows pending on the website though, which is weird. But we got the money so I'm not complaining!
Great to hear everything worked out! This is exactly why I always tell people not to panic when they see status changes on the ESD website. Their system has so many quirks and the statuses don't always reflect what's actually happening behind the scenes. The most important thing is always whether the payment actually arrives, not what the website says. Thanks for updating us - it helps other people who might go through the same thing!
This whole thread has been so reassuring! I'm new to unemployment benefits and had no idea these status changes were normal. It's really helpful to see how the community comes together to help each other understand the system. I'll definitely bookmark this for future reference in case I run into similar issues. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!
One more important thing - keep records of when you file your weekly claims! Screenshot the confirmation page or write down confirmation numbers. If there's ever a dispute, you'll need proof that you filed on time.
Summary for anyone just joining: YES, weekly claims must be filed every single week by the Sunday deadline. No exceptions, no making up missed weeks. Set reminders, file early, keep records, and don't listen to people who say you can skip weeks!
Thank you all so much for this detailed explanation! As someone brand new to this process, I was really confused about the weekly filing requirement. My neighbor definitely gave me wrong information and I'm glad I asked here before following her advice. I'll make sure to file every single week by Saturday to be safe, keep detailed records, and maintain my job search log. This community has been way more helpful than trying to navigate the ESD website on my own!
Former ESD employee here. When claims get stuck like this with no visible issues, it's usually one of three things: 1. Identity verification queue - sometimes the system flags accounts for additional identity verification even when documents look correct 2. Employer response issue - your former employer might have contested something or not responded, which puts the claim in a special queue 3. Able and available review - sometimes random claims get selected to verify you're truly available for work None of these will show up under 'Pending Issues' because they're internal review processes. Unfortunately, the only way to resolve is getting through to a claims specialist who can see these internal flags and clear them if appropriate. The WorkSource offices can't directly help with claim issues, but some offices have direct ESD claim specialists onsite certain days of the week. Call your local WorkSource and ask if they have any ESD staff onsite and when. That might be your best bet for in-person help.
This is incredibly helpful insight, thank you! I didn't realize those internal reviews wouldn't show up on my account. I'll try calling WorkSource tomorrow to see if they have any ESD staff onsite. My former employer definitely confirmed my layoff was due to lack of work, so I'm guessing it might be #1 or #3 from your list.
SUCCESS!! I finally got through this morning using the 8am trick and pretending I needed to file a new claim. The agent was super helpful and found the issue right away - turns out my claim got flagged for an 'able and available' review because I mentioned occasional childcare issues in one of my weekly claim notes (totally my fault). She cleared it and said all my payments should process within 48 hours! Such a relief after all this stress.
Final thought - keep documenting everything. Take screenshots of your account showing the correspondence issue date, note when you tried to call, etc. If there are any problems later, you'll have proof that you were trying to resolve the issue.
I just went through this exact same situation last month! The correspondence issue date showed up on my account but I waited almost 2 weeks for a letter that never came. Turned out Washington ESD had a backlog in their mail processing system. When I finally got through to them (took forever on the phone), they were able to tell me what the letter was about and even email me a copy. Don't wait too long - if it's been more than 10 business days since that issue date, definitely try to contact them. In my case, it was just a routine request for wage verification, but the delay was stressing me out thinking I'd missed something important.
This is really reassuring to hear! I'm in almost the exact same boat - correspondence issue date from over a week ago and nothing in the mail yet. It's good to know that Washington ESD can email you a copy when you finally get through to them. Did they explain why their mail processing had such a backlog? I'm wondering if this is an ongoing issue or just something that happened during your timeframe.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I'm going to try a few different approaches and see what works. Will update if I make any progress!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now - been trying to get through for my adjudication for over a month. The phone system is absolutely useless. I've been reading through all these suggestions and I think I'm going to try the Claimyr service that several people mentioned. At this point I'm willing to pay something if it means I can actually talk to a human being and get my claim moving again. Has anyone else had success with contacting their state representative's office? That sounds like it might be worth trying too, especially since this has been dragging on for so long.

•I actually contacted my state representative's office about 3 weeks ago when my adjudication hit the 8-week mark. They have a constituent services team that specifically helps with Washington ESD issues. It took about 10 days, but they were able to get my case escalated and I finally got a callback from an actual adjudicator. Definitely worth trying if you've been waiting over a month - they seem to take legislative inquiries more seriously than regular calls. You just need to fill out a form on your rep's website explaining the situation and how long you've been waiting.
