Don't forget that applying also means you're agreeing to be available for work and actively seeking employment. If you're not really ready to go back to work or are being too picky about jobs, Washington ESD can disqualify you. The benefits come with real obligations.
Last thing I'll add - if you have any complications in your work history (fired for cause, quit without good cause, independent contractor work, etc.), the application process gets much more complex. Those situations often trigger adjudication which can delay benefits for months while they investigate.
Yeah that should be straightforward. Layoffs due to lack of work are usually the easiest unemployment cases to process.
Even straightforward cases can hit snags though. That's why having a way to actually reach Washington ESD agents when needed is so valuable. Services like Claimyr really help when the normal channels fail.
Just remember that Washington ESD processes thousands of claims so they're not trying to make you wait on purpose. It's just a slow bureaucratic process.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful responses. Feeling a lot less anxious knowing that 2-4 weeks is normal and that others have been through the same thing.
And remember that Claimyr option is there if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD before your approval comes through.
Don't stress too much about the amount - focus on getting your claim filed correctly and meeting all the requirements. The money will come if you follow the rules and stay on top of your weekly claims.
Just remember that unemployment is temporary assistance, not a long-term solution. Use the time wisely to find your next opportunity and maybe even improve your situation from where you were before.
The most important thing is just to get started with the application process. Don't let the complexity intimidate you - Washington ESD has customer service reps who can help explain things if you get stuck.
This has been such a comprehensive discussion! Really shows how complex the unemployment system can be, but also that there are people willing to help each other figure it out.

Partial unemployment saved me when my hours got cut. Definitely file sooner rather than later - benefits don't backdate very far.

•How far back do they backdate if at all?

•I think it's only to the Sunday of the week you file your claim. So don't wait if you qualify.

Make sure your employer isn't going to contest your claim. Most don't for partial unemployment but it's worth mentioning to your manager that you're filing.

•Should I ask them directly or just mention it casually?

•I'd probably just mention it casually. Most employers understand when they cut hours that people need to file for partial benefits.
