6 weeks stuck in ESD adjudication for claim reopening - desperate for help!

I'm seriously freaking out here. My UI claim reopening has been sitting in adjudication for SIX WEEKS now! I lost my job at the manufacturing plant after they brought me back for only 3 months. My savings are completely gone, and I've got rent due next week with literally $134 to my name. This is just for a reopening - not even a new claim! Has anyone else had their reopening take this ridiculously long? I've called ESD like 40+ times but either get disconnected or told "it's in process, just wait." I've sent messages through eServices that never get answered. Is there ANYTHING I can do to speed this up? Some magic email address or special department I should be contacting? I'm about to lose my apartment and I'm seriously panicking.

I was stuck in adjudication for 5 weeks last year. Totally get the stress! Have u tried contacting ur state rep? Thats what finally worked 4 me. Google ur district rep and send them an email explaining ur situation.

I didn't even think about contacting my state rep! Do you just email them directly? Did they actually help get things moving for you?

Reopened claims are going through extensive review processes right now, especially if there's any change in your employment history since your original claim. The system flags these for manual review to prevent fraud. In your situation, I recommend these specific steps: 1. Make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even though you're not getting paid 2. Check your ESD account for any alerts or requests for documentation - sometimes these get missed 3. Contact your WorkSource office directly - they sometimes have direct lines to ESD case managers 4. If you're facing eviction, immediately apply for emergency rental assistance through DSHS The adjudication process is frustrating but it will eventually resolve. Just make sure you don't miss any deadlines for weekly claims or document requests while waiting.

Thanks for this detailed info. I've been filing my weekly claims religiously. I check my ESD account like 5 times a day and there are no alerts or requests there. I'll try WorkSource tomorrow - didn't realize they might have better connections than just calling the main line!

This isn't helpful at all. Some people can't just "hang in there" when they're about to be homeless. The system is broken and we shouldn't normalize these ridiculous wait times.

After wasting WEEKS trying to get through to ESD about my adjudication issue, I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and actually got through to a real agent in about 15 minutes. They basically call ESD for you and when they get through, they connect you. Saved me from absolute insanity after calling 50+ times myself and getting nowhere. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The ESD agent I finally spoke with was able to see exactly why my claim was held up in adjudication (missing employer response) and escalated it. Got resolved within 3 days after that call.

Is this legit? Sounds suspiciously convenient... Has anyone else used this service? I'm desperate too but wary of giving info to random services.

I work with unemployment claims professionally. Six weeks in adjudication for a reopened claim does indicate something is flagged in your file. Most likely causes are: 1. Employer dispute about reason for separation 2. Earnings verification issues from your 3-month return period 3. Availability for work questions triggered by your work search activities Your fastest resolution paths are: 1. Call ESD early morning (7:30am) when queue is shortest 2. Request an escalation specifically for financial hardship 3. Ask clearly: "What specifically is causing my adjudication delay and what documentation can I provide to resolve it?" The fact that this is a reopening after a brief return to work often triggers additional scrutiny. The agent needs to verify your eligibility for the new period hasn't been compromised by the circumstances of your second separation.

This is super helpful. I'm guessing it might be #1 since my employer contested my first claim initially (then lost). I'll try calling right when they open tomorrow and specifically mention financial hardship. Any magic words I should use to get them to escalate it?

I used Claimyr too and can confirm it works. Got through to an agent who saw my adjudication was just sitting there with no activity for weeks. They put a note for urgent review and I got approved 4 days later. Worth every penny when you're facing eviction!

This whole thing is ridiculous. We shouldn't have to PAY A THIRD PARTY just to access a government service OUR TAXES FUND. The entire ESD system is broken beyond belief. I've been dealing with them for months and it's a nightmare every single time.

Quick question - are you on regular UI or some kind of special program? Because reopenings should be WAY faster than 6 weeks. Mine only took 3 days last month. Maybe you're in some special category that's causing the delay?

Just regular UI as far as I know. The weird thing is my original claim last year went through in like a week. This reopening is taking forever for some reason. The only difference is I was called back to work for 3 months and then laid off again when they lost a contract.

To answer your follow-up: The most effective "magic words" for escalation are "facing imminent eviction" or "utilities scheduled for disconnection." Be prepared to verify this if asked. Regarding your employer contesting the previous claim: That's highly relevant. The system likely flagged your file for a full review of both separation instances. In these cases, the adjudicator often attempts to contact your employer again for the second separation details, and if the employer is slow to respond, your claim sits in limbo. You can potentially speed this up by proactively submitting documentation about your most recent separation (final paycheck stub, layoff notice, etc.) through your eServices account. Label it clearly as "Documentation for current adjudication - reopened claim.

Thank you! I have my final pay stub and the email from my manager explaining they lost the contract and had to let me go. I'll upload those to eServices right now and then call first thing tomorrow morning. Really appreciate the specific advice!

btw did u check if theres any pending questionnaires or fact finding forms in ur account? sometimes they hide those things and dont actually tell u they're there!! my friend missed one and was stuck for MONTHS

I just checked again and there's nothing showing up under alerts or messages. But maybe I should call and specifically ask if there are any questionnaires I need to complete that aren't showing up correctly?

I recommend calling on Wednesday or Thursday if possible. Monday and Tuesday call volumes are typically 30-40% higher, making it much harder to get through. Also, when you do connect with an agent, ask them to check for "pending issues" not just "questionnaires" - they're categorized differently in their system. And yes, definitely try the WorkSource office. While they're technically separate from ESD, many WorkSource specialists have been trained to help with unemployment issues specifically because of the high volume of cases. Some offices even have dedicated ESD liaisons on certain days of the week.
