New York Unemployment employer contact - will they tell my new job I filed for benefits?
Just got a new job after being on unemployment. Now Im worried because unemployment is contacting my new employer. Will they tell them I was collecting benefits? Really dont want my new job knowing about this its embarrassing and I dont want it to affect my new position.

Dont worry about it, its totally normal. They just verify your employment dates and wages. Its standard procedure to make sure people arent double dipping - like collecting benefits while working full time. Your new employer wont care, they deal with this stuff all the time.

Hey I had trouble reaching unemployment about this too. I used claimyr.com to get through to an agent. It costs $20 but they dial and wait on hold then connect you when someone picks up. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

its illegal for them to discriminate against u for collecting UI benefits. its ur right as a worker who paid into the system.

I feel u on this. I was worried too but my HR lady just filed it away no big deal. They get these requests constantly its just paperwork to them.

Look, heres the deal with employer contacts: NY unemployment has to verify new employment to close out your claim properly. They check: 1) Start date 2) Wage amount 3) Hours worked. Thats it. They dont discuss your previous benefits or situation. Its a basic form they send to every employer. Anyone who tells u different is wrong.

Been through this exact same thing! I was so paranoid when I started my new job and saw the unemployment office contacted my employer. Turns out it's literally just a routine verification form - they're closing the loop on your claim to make sure you're not still collecting while working. My boss didn't even mention it to me, HR just handled it like any other paperwork. You're overthinking it (I did too!) but there's really nothing to stress about here.

•omg yes this is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been losing sleep over this thinking they'd somehow make me look bad to my new boss. Really appreciate you sharing your experience - helps put things in perspective 🙏

I went through this same anxiety when I started my new position last year. The unemployment office sent a standard "Request for Separation Information" form to my employer, but it's literally just asking for basic employment verification - start date, wage, etc. My HR department told me they get these all the time and it's completely routine. They're not sharing details about your unemployment claim or making any judgments. It's just the state closing out your file to prevent overpayments. Your new employer won't think twice about it, trust me!
