NYS Department of Labor weekly claim certification - what was the total amount spent on social security benefits affecting my UI claim?
I'm filling out my weekly claim certification and there's a question about other benefits received. I got some social security payments last month but I'm not sure what total amount to report to NYS Department of Labor. Does anyone know if I need to include the full amount or just what affects my unemployment benefits? My claim has been pending adjudication for 2 weeks and I don't want to mess this up by reporting the wrong amount.

You need to report the gross amount of any social security benefits you received during the week you're certifying for. NYS Department of Labor will calculate how it affects your UI benefits. The social security amount gets deducted dollar-for-dollar from your weekly benefit amount, so if you got $200 in social security and your UI benefit is $300, you'd only get $100 from unemployment that week.

•Thank you! So I report the full social security amount and let them do the math? I was worried about double-reporting or something.

been dealing with this same issue for months, the NYS Department of Labor system is confusing about what to report and what not to report

If you're having trouble reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor to clarify this, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really helped me get answers about my benefit calculations when I couldn't get through the regular phone lines.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if my adjudication doesn't move forward soon.

Wait I'm confused - do I report social security on every weekly claim or just when I first file? And what about Medicare premiums that get deducted from my social security?

•You report it every week that you receive it. Report the gross amount before Medicare deductions. NYS Department of Labor only cares about the total benefit amount you received.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIDICULOUS! Why can't they just have clear instructions about what amounts to report instead of making us guess and risk getting overpayment notices later!
