NYS Department of Labor 602a unemployment form - what exactly is this?
I got a letter from NYS Department of Labor mentioning form 602a but I have no idea what this is about. The letter says I need to respond within 10 days but doesn't really explain what the 602a form is for or why they're asking for it. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm worried this might affect my weekly claims if I don't handle it right. My claim has been going smoothly for the past 6 weeks so I'm confused why this came up now.

Form 602a is typically used when NYS Department of Labor needs additional information about your work separation or eligibility. It's part of their adjudication process. You should have received specific instructions about what information they need from you. Check the letter carefully for details about what documentation to submit.

•The letter mentions something about my last employer but doesn't specify what they need to know. Should I contact my former boss before responding?

i got one of those last year, it was about whether i quit or got fired. took like 3 weeks to resolve but my benefits weren't stopped during that time

•That's a relief about benefits continuing. Did you have to get documentation from your employer?

The 602a is basically NYS Department of Labor's way of investigating potential issues with your claim. Common reasons include conflicting information about your separation, questions about availability for work, or issues with job search requirements. Make sure you respond with complete and accurate information - incomplete responses often lead to delays in adjudication.

•What happens if you miss the 10-day deadline? I'm always worried about these time limits with unemployment stuff.

I had such a hard time reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor when I got my 602a notice. Kept getting busy signals and automated hangups. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent who explained exactly what they needed. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made the whole process way less stressful.

•That sounds helpful! I've been dreading trying to call them. How quickly were you able to get through?
