NYDOL Unemployment Claim Certification Call - What to Expect and Prepare?
Hey everyone, I'm about to call unemployment to finish my claim. They're gonna ask me questions to certify it. Any advice on what I should have ready or expect? I'm a bit nervous about the whole process.

Make sure you have all your employment info ready! They'll probably ask about your last job, when you stopped working, and why. Also, have your social security number and any claim numbers handy. Good luck!

Thanks! Do you know if they ask about job search activities? I've been applying but haven't kept great records š¬

Yeah, they usually do. Try to remember at least a few places you've applied to recently. Even if you don't have exact dates, having some info is better than none!

Pro tip: start keeping a spreadsheet of your job applications NOW. It'll save you so much hassle later on!

Ugh, good luck getting through. I've been trying to reach them for weeks and keep getting disconnected. The system is so broken š¤¬

Same here! It's like they don't want us to actually get our benefits. So frustrating!

I found a way to get through! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wait, seriously? Is that even legal? Sounds kinda sketchy tbh

Totally get the skepticism, but it's legit. They're just using tech to automate the hold process. Saved me hours of frustration!

Be prepared for them to ask about any income you've had since your last job. Even small gigs or part-time work needs to be reported. Better to be honest upfront!

Anyone else feel like they're playing unemployment roulette? Sometimes you get a super helpful person, other times it's like talking to a brick wall š¤·āāļø

Here's a comprehensive list of what you should have ready: ā¢ Social Security Number ā¢ Driver's License or State ID ā¢ Employment history for the last 18 months (employer names, addresses, phone numbers, start/end dates) ā¢ Reason for unemployment ā¢ Bank account info for direct deposit ā¢ Any severance or vacation pay info ā¢ Records of job search activities (if required in your state) ā¢ If you're not a US citizen, have your work authorization documents Remember, stay calm and be patient. The process can be frustrating, but the person on the other end is just doing their job. Good luck!

This should be pinned at the top of the sub tbh. So many people come here asking the same questions!

idk if this helps but I always take notes during the call. Sometimes they give you info that's not on the website and it's good to have a record.

Am I the only one who gets major anxiety before these calls? š I always feel like I'm gonna say something wrong and lose my benefits

Same boat here. I've found it helps to write down what I want to say beforehand. Keeps me from rambling or forgetting important stuff.

Hot take: the whole unemployment system needs a major overhaul. It's not equipped to handle modern work situations at all.

Preach! š The gig economy has totally changed the game but the system is stuck in the 1950s

100% agree. And don't even get me started on how it fails freelancers and contract workers š

Quick question - does anyone know if they're still doing the extra federal benefits? I've heard conflicting things

Pretty sure those ended a while back. It's just regular state benefits now, at least where I am.

Depends on your state. Some places still have additional pandemic-related programs. Check your state's unemployment website for the most up-to-date info.
