How to find out when my NYS Department of Labor unemployment benefits end - where to check?

I've been collecting UI benefits for about 4 months now and I'm starting to worry about when they'll run out. I know there's a limit but I can't figure out where to see my remaining weeks or benefit year end date. I've looked all over my my.ny.gov account but nothing seems clear about this. Does anyone know where exactly I can find out when my unemployment benefits end? I don't want to be caught off guard when they suddenly stop.

You should be able to see your benefit year end date and remaining weeks in your online account. Log into my.ny.gov and go to your unemployment services dashboard. Look for 'Claim Summary' or 'Benefit Information' - it should show your benefit year that started when you first filed, which runs for 52 weeks. Regular UI gives you up to 26 weeks of benefits within that year.

I found the claim summary but I'm seeing conflicting dates. One says my benefit year started in March but another section shows a different date. Which one should I trust?

check your weekly claim confirmation emails too, they usually have a line that says something like 'weeks remaining' or they'll mention your benefit year end date

The benefit year is definitely 52 weeks from when you first established your claim, regardless of whether you collected continuously or had gaps. Within that year, you get up to 26 weeks of payments if you remain eligible. If you've been collecting for 4 months straight, that's roughly 16-17 weeks, so you should have around 9-10 weeks left assuming you haven't had any breaks.

This is helpful but what happens if your benefit year expires before you use all 26 weeks? I had some weeks where I worked part time and didn't claim.

If your benefit year expires, you'd need to file a new claim if you're still unemployed. The unused weeks from your old benefit year don't carry over - it's use it or lose it within that 52-week period.

UGH this is exactly what I'm worried about! I can never get through to NYS Department of Labor on the phone to ask these questions and their website is so confusing. I've been trying to call for weeks but either get disconnected or sit on hold forever. There has to be a better way to get answers about this stuff.

I had the same frustration until someone told me about Claimyr (claimyr.com). They actually help you get through to a real NYS Department of Labor agent without the endless hold times. I used it last month when I needed to check on my claim status and got connected within minutes. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. Way better than trying to call yourself.

Really? That sounds too good to be true but I'm desperate at this point. I'll check it out, thanks!

Also remember that even if you have weeks left in your benefit year, you still need to meet all the weekly requirements - job search, able and available, etc. Don't assume you can just coast until the benefits end. NYS Department of Labor can always audit your job search log.

Thanks everyone! I finally found it in my account - looks like I have about 8 weeks left before my benefit year ends in July. Now I need to really step up my job search.

Great that you found your info! Just a heads up - if you're getting close to exhausting your regular 26 weeks, you might want to look into whether you qualify for any extended benefits programs. Sometimes there are federal or state extensions available depending on unemployment rates in your area. Also, start preparing any documentation you might need if you have to file a new claim after your benefit year ends. Good luck with the job search!

This is really good advice about extended benefits! I didn't even know those existed. @Isabella Brown do you know how to check if there are any extensions available in your area? Is that something you can see in the my.ny.gov portal or do you have to call? I m'in the same boat as the original poster and want to make sure I m'not missing out on anything.
