How do I find my unemployment tax rate for NYS Department of Labor reporting?
I'm trying to figure out where to find my unemployment tax rate for my small business. I need this info for quarterly reporting to NYS Department of Labor but can't locate it anywhere on the employer portal. I've looked through all my old correspondence and checked the online account but nothing shows the actual rate percentage. Is there a specific section in the employer system where this is displayed? Really need to get my quarterly filing done this week.

Your unemployment tax rate should be in your annual rate notice that NYS Department of Labor sends out each year, usually in December or January. If you can't find that paperwork, log into your employer account on the NYS Department of Labor website and look under 'Account Information' or 'Rate Information' section. The rate is also shown on your quarterly wage report forms.

•Thanks! I found the Account Information section but it's only showing my account number and business details. No rate percentage anywhere. Should I be looking somewhere else in the portal?

Check your email for the annual rate notice from NYS Department of Labor. They usually send it electronically now unless you opted for paper mail. The subject line is something like 'Annual Unemployment Insurance Tax Rate Notice' and it has your specific rate for the year.

•Found it! It was buried in my spam folder from January. Thanks for the tip about checking email - I was only looking at physical mail.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to ask about your rate, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually connect with someone. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Way easier than sitting on hold for hours when you need specific account information like tax rates.

•never heard of this service before, does it actually work for employer questions or just claimant stuff?

•I used it for an employer issue when I couldn't figure out my quarterly reporting requirements. Worked fine for getting connected to the right department.

Your rate can change year to year based on your experience rating so make sure you're using the current year's rate notice. Don't use last year's rate by mistake or you'll have to file corrections later.
