Fired from Medicaid job - Can I still get New York Unemployment?
Got fired from my job at Medicaid. My supervisor wrote me up for taking too long with patients but I was just being thorough with their paperwork. We were always understaffed and I had to handle double the normal caseload. They gave me no warning before letting me go. Never been fired before and worked there for 3 years. Anyone know if I can still get unemployment benefits?

Yes you can apply! Being fired doesn't automatically disqualify you. As long as you weren't fired for misconduct, you should be eligible. Document everything about your termination and workload. Taking extra time with patients isn't misconduct - its being careful!

•Thank you! Should I mention the understaffing issue in my application?

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at ny unemployment. Used this site claimyr.com - its a calling service that waits on hold and calls you when an agent picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it cause I got my question answered right away. Heres a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Im in healthcare too and the same thing happened to me last year! Applied for benefits and got approved. Just make sure you tell them exactly what happened - dont sugar coat it but dont bash ur old job either

Listen up yall - heres what you need to know about getting fired and collecting benefits: First, NY state looks at WHY you were fired. If it wasn't misconduct (like stealing, violence, or deliberately breaking rules), you can usually collect. Poor performance or not meeting expectations usually isn't considered misconduct. Second, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING: - Your termination notice - Performance reviews - Any emails about understaffing - Witness statements if possible Third, when you apply be honest but professional. Don't trash talk your employer. Fourth, expect your employer to contest it. Be ready to explain your side. If you need help fast, use claimyr.com to get through to an agent. Worth the $20 to get answers quick. Finally, appeal if denied! Many people win on appeal. Good luck! 🙏
