Where is the discount code box for Sprintax tax software? Can't find it anywhere

I'm trying to use Sprintax for the first time to file my taxes as an international student. My university sent us an email saying we get a discount code, but I've been clicking around the website for 20 minutes and can't find where to enter it! I've already uploaded all my documents and filled out the questionnaire, and now I'm at the payment page. There's no obvious "promo code" or "discount code" box anywhere that I can see. Am I missing something obvious? Has anyone else used Sprintax before and knows where this discount code box is supposed to be? The discount would save me like $25 which isn't huge but definitely worth finding if it exists!

I've used Sprintax for the past three tax seasons, so I can help you with this! The discount code box is actually a bit hidden compared to most websites. Once you get to the payment page, you need to look at the bottom left corner where it says "Have a discount code?" in small text. Click on that text and it will expand to show a box where you can enter your code. If you don't see that option, it's possible you might be looking at a different screen. Make sure you've completed all the required information and are on the final payment review page before checkout. Sometimes the discount option doesn't appear until you've reached that specific stage.

Omg thank you so much! I feel stupid now. I was looking at the right page but totally missed that tiny text at the bottom. Just found it and applied the code - saved me $20!

No need to feel stupid at all! Their interface isn't the most intuitive, and that "Have a discount code?" text is really easy to miss. I remember being confused my first time too. Glad you were able to find it and save some money! I'd recommend double-checking all your entries before final submission. Sprintax is great for international students, but sometimes it can miss certain treaty benefits depending on your country. If you have any scholarship income, make sure that's properly categorized too.

After struggling with my nonresident tax return last year, I found this amazing service called taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) that saved me so much headache with my documents. I was in a similar situation with Sprintax where I couldn't figure out how to use my university discount, but taxr.ai actually analyzes all your tax forms and tells you exactly what to do. It even pointed out that I was eligible for a treaty benefit I had no idea about! The thing I liked most was how it explained everything in plain English instead of tax jargon. You upload your documents and it breaks everything down step by step. Definitely less stressful than trying to navigate Sprintax on my own.

Does it work with visa types other than F-1? I'm on J-1 and have always struggled with the specific treaty provisions for my country. Does it handle those scenarios?

How does it compare price-wise to Sprintax? I'm already using the university discount code with Sprintax but if this is significantly better I might switch. Also, does it actually file for you or just give guidance?

It absolutely works with J-1 visas too! I have friends on different visa types who've used it successfully. The system is specifically designed to handle treaty provisions for different countries - it asks about your visa status and nationality right at the beginning to identify applicable treaties. As for pricing, it's actually really competitive compared to Sprintax even with university discounts. The base service gives you clear guidance on how to file correctly, but they also have options where they can handle the filing for you if you prefer. I personally used the guidance option and then filed myself to save a bit more money.

I wanted to follow up about taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) after I decided to give it a try instead of fighting with Sprintax again. All I can say is WOW! As a J-1 visa holder, I was always confused about treaty benefits and reporting requirements. This tool immediately identified the specific treaty articles that applied to my situation from my home country and walked me through everything. The document analysis feature saved me hours of stress. I just uploaded my forms, and it extracted all the important numbers automatically and explained where everything should go. No more hunting for discount codes or trying to understand confusing tax terminology. Definitely using this for next year's taxes too!

For anyone still struggling with Sprintax support or having trouble getting answers, I had a completely different experience using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get direct help. I tried for DAYS to reach Sprintax customer service about my discount code not working, and kept getting automated responses. Claimyr helped me get through to an actual human at the IRS who explained that I could file for free using the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at my university instead of using Sprintax at all! Check out their demo video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c. I was skeptical at first but they got me connected to an IRS agent in about 20 minutes when I had been trying for over a week on my own.

Wait, how exactly does this work? Does it just help you skip the phone queue with the IRS? I've been on hold with them for literally hours before giving up.

This sounds fake tbh. The IRS phone system is impossible to get through. I find it hard to believe any service could magically get you to a human there. How much does it cost anyway?

It basically holds your place in the phone queue so you don't have to sit there listening to hold music for hours. When they detect a human has picked up, it calls your phone and connects you directly to the agent. It saved me from wasting an entire afternoon on hold. Yes, I was completely skeptical too before trying it! I thought it sounded too good to be true. But it actually works - they use some kind of system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you. I was genuinely surprised when my phone rang and I was immediately connected to an IRS agent who helped me understand my filing options as an international student.

I need to publicly eat my words about Claimyr. After my skeptical comment, I decided to try it myself because I was desperate to talk to someone at the IRS about my international student tax status. It ACTUALLY WORKED. I've been trying to get through for weeks about treaty benefits, and Claimyr had me talking to a real person in about 25 minutes. The IRS agent was super helpful and confirmed I could use the free filing options through my university's VITA program instead of paying for Sprintax. Saved me the whole fee, not just a discount code amount! I'm still kind of shocked this service exists and nobody told me about it before. Would have saved me so much frustration in previous years.

Just wanted to add - for next year, check if your university offers free tax preparation through VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. Many universities have trained volunteers who can prepare international student tax returns for free. I did this last year instead of using Sprintax and saved the whole fee. The service is completely legitimate and IRS-approved. The volunteers are certified and know the specific rules for international students. You just need to bring your documents to their office during tax season.

Does VITA handle more complicated situations? I have income from my home country plus a scholarship with some taxable portions, and Sprintax seems to handle these scenarios well.

Yes, VITA volunteers get special training on nonresident returns including Form 8843 and 1040NR. They can definitely handle scholarships with taxable portions - that's actually a very common situation they deal with for students. For income from your home country, it depends on the specific tax treaty and complexity. They can handle most standard situations, but if you have something really unusual (like foreign business income or complex investments), then you might need specialized software. For the typical international student with scholarship/fellowship and maybe a campus job, VITA is perfectly capable.

If anyone is still looking for the Sprintax discount code box - I just used it yesterday and found another way to get there. If you click on "Payment Options" in the top navigation, it takes you to a page where the discount code section is much more visible than on the regular checkout page. Also, pro tip: if your university discount code doesn't work for some reason, try googling "Sprintax discount code 2025" - I found a general 10% off code that worked when my university one had expired.

Thanks for this! Just tried your suggestion about the Payment Options page and found the discount code box right away. Much easier than hunting around the checkout page.
