What does 'Notice issued' mean on IRS transcript? Should I be worried?
Just checked my transcripts and saw a 'Notice issued' on my account. Im freaking out. Has anyone seen this before? What does it mean and should I be worried? Been waiting on my refund for 2 months now and this is the first update I've seen.

A notice issued could mean several things - from simple information requests to adjustments in your return. Without seeing the specific code that accompanies the notice, it's hard to say exactly what it means. Check your transcript for any codes next to the notice (like CP12, CP05, etc). These codes tell us exactly what type of notice you're getting.

•Look in the transaction section. It should be next to the date of the notice. If you're having trouble, try taxr.ai - it reads these codes automatically and tells you exactly what they mean

Honestly the best way to understand whats going on is to use taxr.ai. It costs $1 but it reads your entire transcript and tells you exactly what everything means, including notices. I use it whenever I see updates on my account and it's been a lifesaver! https://taxr.ai

Did you claim EIC or child tax credit? Those usually trigger more reviews and notices

I had the same thing happen to me last year and it turned out to be just a CP12 notice for a minor math error correction. The IRS adjusted my refund by like $15 but I still got the rest of it. The "Notice issued" status is actually a good sign because it means they're actively processing your return instead of it just sitting there. Since you claimed EIC, they're probably just doing their standard review - it's super common this time of year. Try not to stress too much until you get the actual notice in the mail!

•Thanks for the reassurance! That actually makes me feel a lot better. I've been spiraling thinking it was something terrible but a math error correction sounds totally manageable. Really appreciate you sharing your experience - helps to know others have been through this and it worked out fine 🙏

Hey Ben! I totally get the anxiety - I went through the exact same thing a few weeks ago. Like others mentioned, "Notice issued" usually just means they're sending you paperwork about some kind of adjustment or review. Since you claimed EIC, it's probably just their standard verification process. The good news is that your return is actually moving through the system rather than being stuck in limbo. Most of the time these notices are pretty routine - could be anything from verifying your income to a small calculation adjustment. Try to stay calm until you get the actual notice in the mail, then you'll know exactly what they need from you. Hang in there! 💪

•This is so helpful! I'm actually in a similar situation - got the "Notice issued" status last week and have been losing sleep over it. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here. Makes me feel like I'm not alone in this whole confusing process. Definitely going to try to stay positive until I see what the actual notice says!

Hey Ben! I completely understand your anxiety about this - I was in your exact shoes about 3 months ago. Got the dreaded "Notice issued" on my transcript and immediately thought the worst. Turns out it was just a CP05 notice asking me to verify some information since I also claimed EIC. The whole process took about 6-8 weeks but I eventually got my full refund. The waiting is honestly the hardest part, but try to remember that "Notice issued" means they're actually working on your case rather than it just sitting in a pile somewhere. Keep checking your mailbox and once you get the notice, it'll tell you exactly what they need. Most of the time it's way less scary than we imagine it to be! Hang in there - you've got this! 🙏
