IRS Transcript Shows Cycle 20250505 with Negative Adjustments of $965 and $1,969 for April 2025
Can someone help explain what these cycle numbers mean on my transcript? I'm looking at my 2025 transcript and I see it says "AS ADJUSTED **" at the top. The transcript shows "(WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2025" and then has a date of "Feb. 17, 2025". Under TRANSACTIONS, I see the following information: CYCLE: 20250505 DATE: 02-17-2025 AMOUNT: $0.00 Then there are two more entries: DATE: 04-15-2025 AMOUNT: -$865.00 DATE: 04-16-2025 AMOUNT: -$2,069.00 At the bottom it says "Sensitive Taxpayer Data". Everyone keeps talking about cycles but I don't understand what I'm looking at. What does cycle 20250505 mean? Are these related to the adjustment dates? I notice there's something about "AS ADJUSTED" at the top of the transcript too. Is that significant? Are the negative amounts refunds I'm getting, or something else? The transcript seems to be from the IRS website (irs.gov), but I'm confused by all these numbers and dates. Thanks in advance for any help explaining this!

The transcript shows three key entries for your 2025 tax year. The first entry has cycle code 20250505 dated February 17, 2025, with a $0.00 amount, which indicates when your return was initially processed. This cycle code tells us your return was handled in the 5th week of 2025. The two subsequent entries dated April 15, 2025 (the standard tax deadline) show amounts of -$965.00 and -$1,969.00. The negative signs are actually good news - they indicate amounts the IRS owes to you rather than you owing to them. The total refund amount appears to be $2,934.00 ($965.00 + $1,969.00). The "AS ADJUSTED" notation at the top of your transcript suggests that the IRS made some adjustments to your original return, which may explain why there are two separate refund amounts rather than one combined figure. Based on your February 17 processing date, you should have received your refund within 21 days of that date, assuming there were no additional reviews or holds placed on your return.

Yes, that's a good estimate! Unless there are any holds or additional reviews, March 10th is within that 21-day window.

Instead of trying to decode these cryptic transcripts yourself, you should try taxr.ai - it's literally a dollar and it explains everything in plain english. I was scratching my head trying to figure out my dates but the AI broke it down perfectly https://taxr.ai

Pro tip: Weekly cycles (ending in 05) usually update on Wednesday nights/Thursday mornings. Daily cycles (ending in 01-04) update throughout the week. Keep an eye on your transcripts those days!
