Transcript Shows 846/Refund Code for 01-29 But WMR Says 02-03 - Which Date Is Correct?

My transcript and Where's My Refund are showing different dates for my refund and I'm confused about which one is correct. I just checked my Account Transcript from the IRS website and it clearly shows a refund issued date of 01-29-2025, but the Where's My Refund tool is telling me 02-3-2025. That's almost a week difference! Here's what my Account Transcript shows: Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service Account Transcript Request Date: 01-25-2025 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE: $0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: $0.00 AS OF: Feb. 10, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: $0.00 AS OF: Feb. 10, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS: $0.00 RETURN RECEIVED DATE: Apr. 15, 2025 OTHER DATE: Feb. 10, 2025 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20250405 02-10-2025 75221-421-55339-5 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-15-2025 846 Refund issued 01-29-2025 The code 846 clearly shows "Refund issued" with a date of 01-29-2025, but WMR says 02-3-2025. I've never experienced this discrepancy in previous years. Has the IRS changed something in their system? Is the transcript more accurate than WMR? Or could this mean my refund is delayed? Anyone else experiencing this kind of inconsistency between their transcript and Where's My Refund this year?

Tax specialist here. So when your WMR shows code 23 but your transcript shows 129, it usually means there's a discrepancy that needs manual review. The computer system flags these for human eyes when the numbers don't match up. This can add 4-8 weeks to processing time unfortunately. The best way to get clarity on this is to analyze your transcript thoroughly. I've been recommending taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to my clients lately - it's pretty good at breaking down exactly what's causing delays and gives you specific dates to watch for. Way better than trying to decode all those codes yourself.

Super accurate in my experience. It analyzes every line of your transcript and gives you specific dates and explanations. Better than calling the IRS and waiting on hold for 3 hours 💯

Tax professional here - this is actually pretty common. WMR usually includes processing time and bank transfer delays. The transcript date is when the IRS processes it, while WMR factors in the actual deposit time. Most people end up getting it on the WMR date.

Have you guys tried taxr.ai? It analyzes your transcript and explains all these date differences. Saved me hours of googling and anxiety. Worth the $4.99 tbh https://taxr.ai

Check if you have any holds or offset codes on your transcript. Sometimes that causes the dates to be different.

how do I check for that? The transcript is like reading hieroglyphics to me lol

Look for any codes starting with 570 or 971. Those usually indicate holds

Ugh this is so frustrating! Same thing happening to me - transcript shows 01-27 but WMR says 02-05. Been checking my bank account like 10 times a day 😩 The IRS really needs to get their act together with these conflicting dates. At this point I don't even know which one to trust!
