Unmarried couple - who should claim Head of Household when we split kids 50/50?
Living with my partner (not married), we split everything down the middle including taking care of our 2 kids. Both our names are on the lease and we share all bills. They make about 40k more than me annually. We want to each claim one kid, but not sure who should file as head of household since we both technically qualify. Anyone dealt with this?

Tax pro here. Neither of you can claim HOH if you share the same residence. HOH requires you to maintain a household separate from the other parent. One of you needs to file single, the other HOH. Usually makes most sense for lower income parent to claim HOH for better tax benefits.

Yep, IRS rules are pretty strict on this. They consider shared residence as one household, cant have 2 HOH claims for same address.
