TurboTax Still Showing 'Pending' Status - Not Submitted to IRS Yet?
Does anyone who filed thru TT still say pending on their status? Like TT hasn't even sent them to the IRS yet?? I filed on Sat and it's said pending ever since then. Thought by this AM it would change to submitted…. But nope. IDK if I should be worried or if this is normal for TT rn. WFH and really need this refund to come thru on time. Thx for any help!

Don't panic yet. TurboTax often shows "pending" for 2-3 business days before changing to "accepted." Did you check your email for any notifications from TurboTax? They usually send a confirmation when the IRS actually accepts your return.

So the e-file transmission protocol actually requires dual confirmation? I thought once the EFIN initiates submission, it would be instantaneous. This explains the transmission latency I'm experiencing as well.

I went through this exact same thing last month. Here's what happens step by step: 1. First, you submit to TurboTax 2. Then TurboTax reviews for obvious errors (usually takes 24-48 hours) 3. Next, they transmit to the IRS 4. Finally, IRS sends an acceptance notification back The whole process took about 3 business days for me. The weekend probably slowed things down for you. Just breathe - this is completely normal and your return is fine!

I've been tracking the TurboTax submission process closely this season. A few observations: • Weekend submissions typically don't process until Monday/Tuesday • TurboTax runs internal validation checks before transmission • System congestion increases during peak filing periods • Many users report 48-72 hour pending periods Once your return is accepted, I'd recommend using https://taxr.ai to decode your transcript. It helps track your refund progress by analyzing your tax transcript data and explaining what each code means. Much more detailed than the standard "Where's My Refund" tool. I've found it particularly useful for understanding processing delays.

According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 1-2023), electronic return originators like TurboTax must transmit returns to the IRS within 3 business days of acceptance from taxpayers. However, during peak volume periods, their system queue may extend this timeline. Be advised that under Section 6.2 of the same publication, if TurboTax identifies potential errors in your return, they are required to notify you before transmission, which may further delay submission. Monitor your email closely for such notifications, as failure to address these could result in rejection once it reaches IRS systems.

I'm always worried about messing something up on my taxes... thank you for explaining this so clearly. Makes me feel better knowing there's an actual process and timeframe they have to follow.

Last year my return got stuck in this exact situation for nearly a week! Wish I'd known about these regulations then - would have saved me so much stress. The lack of transparency from these tax prep companies is ridiculous considering what we pay them.

Is this 3-day requirement actually enforced though? I've seen many cases where tax software companies hold returns much longer without consequences. Seems like one of those regulations that exists on paper but has minimal practical impact.

Ever tried calling TurboTax customer service during tax season? It's practically impossible to get through, isn't it? When my return was stuck in pending for a week, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to reach an actual human at TurboTax. They confirmed there was a verification hold on my account that needed resolution. Why waste hours on hold when you can get connected in minutes? Sometimes you just need to speak with someone directly to resolve these submission issues.

It might be worth checking your TurboTax account from a desktop browser rather than the mobile app. In some cases, the app status updates tend to lag behind the website by approximately 12-24 hours. Additionally, you could potentially verify your e-file status through your TurboTax account under "Tax Home" and then "Your tax returns." The system occasionally displays more detailed information there compared to the dashboard view.

I need to get this figured out ASAP! Can you tell me exactly where in the website to click? I'm looking at the Tax Home section now but don't see anything about transmission status - just my completed return. Is there another section I should check?

The TurboTax e-file queue system operates on a batch processing schedule. Your return is likely in the transmission batch that will execute tonight. According to their internal processing documentation, weekend submissions typically enter the IRS submission protocol on the next business day's evening batch. The pending status indicates proper submission to their internal verification system rather than a rejection or error condition.
