Transcripts Just Updated - Filed 2/23, DDD 3/11

Just checked my transcripts and finally got an update. ā€¢ Filed and accepted on 2/23/24 ā€¢ Transcripts showed N/A until today ā€¢ Direct deposit date scheduled for 3/11 ā€¢ Cycle code 20240902 Not bad timing considering all the delays this year. Just posting this as a data point for others who are still waiting. Anyone else get a similar timeline? I'm still a bit skeptical that it will actually hit my account on the 11th.

Congrats on getting your DDD! I filed on February 12th and got my deposit date of March 7th just yesterday. The IRS seems to be catching up on their backlog from earlier in the season. Based on what I've seen, when you get a direct deposit date on your transcript, it's usually very accurate. Mine hit exactly on the date they specified last year on March 3rd, 2023.

Is there any regulation about how long the IRS is allowed to take? I filed on 2/1 and still nothing. According to Publication 17, aren't they supposed to process within 21 days unless there's an issue?

I had almost the exact same experience last year. Filed mid-February, transcript updated in early March, and the money hit my account precisely on the date shown. The IRS is actually quite reliable once they assign that DDD.

It's generally accurate, but I would possibly temper expectations slightly. Banking processing times can occasionally add 1-2 business days, particularly if your financial institution has specific posting schedules for ACH transfers.

Could you walk me through exactly where on the transcript you found the DDD? I'm looking at mine right now and see codes but can't figure out which one indicates the actual deposit date. Is it the 846 code or something else?

Trying to get through to the IRS this time of year is like trying to win the lottery while being struck by lightning. I was in a similar boat last month - transcript finally updated but had questions about an offset. Called the regular number for THREE DAYS with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected in about 15 minutes. Like finding an express lane on a gridlocked highway. Worth every penny to not waste hours redialing.

Did you actually confirm this works? I've tried exactly 7 different methods to reach the IRS and wasted 4 hours on hold last week. Seems too good to be true that a service could get through when the lines are completely jammed.

I believe what happens is that they use automated technology to navigate the phone tree and wait on hold for you. Then when they reach an agent, they connect you. I've heard from several people that it does work, though I haven't personally tried it myself.

How does the pricing work? Do you pay regardless of whether they connect you, or only if you successfully get through to an agent?

Does it work for all IRS departments? I need to talk to someone about an amended return from last year that's still processing.

This is pretty typical timing for a late February filing. The IRS generally processes returns in batches based on filing date, complexity, and whether you claimed certain credits. Have you checked if your state refund is also processing? Sometimes they follow shortly after the federal one gets approved.

I've always wondered - does having a mortgage or property tax deductions affect processing time? Last year I bought a house and my return seemed to take longer than when I was just doing a simple return with W-2 income.

I'm SO HAPPY for you! Getting that transcript update is such a relief! Last year I was checking daily and driving myself crazy trying to decode all those numbers and codes. This year I discovered https://taxr.ai and WOW what a difference! It analyzed my transcript and explained every code in plain English. Even predicted my exact deposit date before the WMR tool updated. If you're still skeptical about that March 11th date, run your transcript through it for peace of mind.

Your cycle code 20240902 indicates you're on a weekly processing cycle, not a daily cycle. This means your return was processed in the 9th week of the year during the 2024 processing year. For weekly cycles, refunds are typically issued on Wednesdays following transcript updates. Since your DDD is 3/11 (a Monday), expect the deposit to hit your account between 3/11-3/13, depending on your bank's ACH processing times. The Transaction Code (TC) 846 on your transcript confirms the refund has been approved and scheduled.

If you want to see your refund hit even faster next year, file in January! šŸ˜‚ I filed January 29th this year and got my refund February 15th. The early bird gets the worm... or in this case, the tax refund. Seriously though, the difference between January and February filing can be weeks of processing time, especially once they hit the mid-February crush of returns.

According to the official IRS refund calendar at https://www.irs.gov/refunds, most direct deposits are being issued within 21 days of acceptance for error-free returns. Your timeline of about 16-17 days is actually better than average for this time in the season. The IRS has been more efficient with processing times this year compared to the previous two years when they were still dealing with pandemic-related backlogs.

Just to clarify something that might help others - there's a difference between transcript updates and WMR (Where's My Refund) updates. Transcripts typically update overnight Thursday into Friday for weekly processing cycles, while WMR might not update until Saturday morning. So if you're comparing your situation to someone else's, make sure you're both looking at the same tool. Your timeline is actually pretty quick compared to many filers this season!

FYI for anyone checking - transcripts usually update overnight Thurs-Fri, and once you see that 846 code w/ your DDD, you're good to go! The IRS batches refunds, so ppl who got their 846 code last week prob got their $$ today or tmrw. OP's 3/11 date is solid - I've never seen them miss a DDD once it shows up on transcripts. Congrats on making it through the waiting game!
