Transcript updated with 570 code - Cycle 20240704 - Will it update tomorrow?
So I'm going through this divorce nightmare and I've been tracking my tax return like a hawk because I need this money ASAP. Filed and accepted on 1/29/2024 and I've been checking my transcripts every single day (sometimes twice 🙃). My transcripts finally updated with a 570 code dated 03/04/2024 with $0 amount. My "as of date" shows 02/19/2024 with cycle code 20240704. When I check my IRS account, it still says my return isn't processed yet. WMR just says "your refund is being processed" - the same message for weeks now. No notices have been issued, which I know is my right to receive if there's an actual problem. Last year my refund came without any issues, but this year everything's different with the divorce and filing status change. Is it possible I'll see an update tomorrow? I'm not waiting around forever if they're holding my money without cause!

The 570 code is like a yellow traffic light in your tax journey - it's telling the system to pause, but not necessarily stop. Think of it as the IRS putting your return in a holding pattern while they verify something. Your cycle code 20240704 indicates you're on the weekly update schedule. The "4" at the end is the key - it means your transcript typically updates on Thursdays (with WMR potentially updating Friday/Saturday). Since your as of date (02/19) is behind the current date, this suggests the IRS is still working through something on your return. In most cases, a 570 with no notice is resolved within 1-2 update cycles. I'd expect to see either a 571 code (which lifts the 570 hold) or potentially a 420/424 code if they need more information.

I'm not entirely convinced about this weekly update theory. Couldn't the cycle code possibly refer to something else? I've seen people with similar codes update on different days.

I had almost identical codes last year after changing my filing status. My cycle code ended in 4 and like clockwork, my transcript updated on Thursday night around 11pm. The 570 was replaced with a 571 and then a 846 (refund issued) appeared with a date for the following Wednesday. The weekly update pattern has been consistent for me for three years running.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! I've been reading through IRM 21.4.1.3.7 and other sections of the Internal Revenue Manual, and what you're saying about the cycle codes aligns perfectly with their processing schedules. Really appreciate the traffic light analogy too - makes it much easier to understand.

I think I can help explain what might be happening with your return. Here's what I've observed: 1. First, the 570 code is a temporary hold, but without a notice, it's likely just a processing delay rather than an audit. 2. Second, your cycle code ending in 04 means you're on the weekly processing cycle. 3. Third, the gap between your "as of" date (02/19) and the 570 date (03/04) suggests they're still working on something. Here's what you might want to do: 1. Wait until this Thursday night/Friday morning to check for updates 2. Look specifically for a 571 code which would indicate the hold was released 3. If you see no update by next Monday, then consider calling the IRS Filing status changes after divorce often trigger additional verification steps, but these are usually resolved without you needing to take action.

OMG same thing happened to me last month! 570 code appeared and WMR stuck on processing for like FOREVER. I tried calling the IRS regular number for 3 days straight - kept getting the "high call volume" msg and disconnected 🤬 Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got thru in like 20 mins. Agent told me my return was just flagged for a quick verification bc I changed filing status from last yr. Nothing I needed to do - just wait for processing. Refund hit my acct exactly 9 days later! Tbh I was shocked at how complicated this all is. Never knew what all these codes meant before!

Did you have to provide them with any personal information to use this service? I've been trying to call the IRS since February 27th, 2024, and March 1st, 2024, without success, but I'm hesitant about using third-party services.

How exactly does the Claimyr service work? Do they just connect you to the IRS line or do they actually help with resolving the issue? I'm wondering if it's worth trying if I've been calling for weeks with no luck.

I was in the same boat last year with a 570 code and spent $35 on a similar service just to get through to the IRS. Turns out I could have just waited another week - my refund processed automatically without any intervention. Now I'm much more careful about spending money on these services when the IRS might resolve it on their own.

I'm feeling pretty confident that your return is just going through standard verification. The combination of a 570 code with no notice is actually a good sign! 😊 I've analyzed hundreds of these cases, and the pattern you're describing typically resolves automatically. The $0 amount on the 570 is particularly telling - it usually means there's no adjustment being made to your refund amount. I'm a bit concerned about your cycle code though. 20240704 indicates processing during the 7th week of 2024 (which was mid-February), but your 570 is dated March 4th. This timing discrepancy might explain why you're seeing delays. The system may have flagged your return for review during that February cycle but only got to actually reviewing it in March. I'd be surprised if you don't see movement by next Thursday/Friday.

Based on your transcript details, I can predict your timeline with reasonable accuracy: 1. Your 570 code dated 03/04/2024 combined with cycle code 20240704 puts you on the Thursday weekly update schedule 2. Exactly 77% of 570 codes with no accompanying notice resolve within 14 days 3. You should check your transcript tonight after 12:00am EST - many weekly accounts update between 12:00am-3:00am on Friday mornings 4. If you see a 571 code appear, expect a 846 (refund issued) code to follow, typically with a direct deposit date 5-7 days later I tracked 42 different accounts with similar patterns last tax season, and this timeline held true for 39 of them. The divorce/filing status change is likely what triggered the additional verification, but since no notice was issued, the system is probably just doing an automated review.

I went through almost the exact same situation last year after my divorce. The 570 code had me panicking that my ex had somehow claimed our kids (spoiler: he didn't, thank goodness). The most frustrating part is how the IRS keeps you completely in the dark during this process. It's like dating someone who says "I'll call you" and then ghosting you for weeks! 😂 Seriously though, in my case, the 570 disappeared after about 10 days and was replaced with a 571 (hold released). My refund showed up 6 days later. The whole thing resolved itself without me having to do anything. Just keep checking your transcript every Thursday night/Friday morning since you're on the weekly cycle. And maybe pour yourself a glass of wine while you wait - divorce AND tax delays are too much stress for anyone!

Did you get any notice in the mail after seeing the 570? Nothing in my mailbox yet. Getting worried.

I really appreciate you sharing this! I'm going through a similar situation with my divorce finalized last year and was concerned about the 570 code. Your experience gives me hope that this might resolve itself without further complications.

Have you considered what your transcript might look like if you were to check it tomorrow? The weekly update patterns are fascinating when you analyze them closely. Your cycle code 20240704 indicates you're on the weekly update schedule, which typically updates overnight between Thursday and Friday. The last digit '4' is the key identifier here. What's particularly interesting about your situation is the gap between your 'as of' date (02/19) and your 570 code date (03/04). This suggests the IRS computer system flagged something for review, but the actual review might not have started until March 4th. Did you claim any credits that might trigger additional verification? Or perhaps the filing status change from your divorce triggered a verification step? Either way, without a notice, this is likely just part of their normal verification process rather than something requiring your intervention. The good news? Most 570 codes without notices resolve within 1-2 weekly cycles.

TC 570 followed by TC 571 is the standard sequence for many returns this year. I successfully navigated this exact situation in February. My transcript showed a 570 dated 02/12/2024 with cycle code 20240605. Exactly 9 days later, it updated with a 571 (release of hold) and an 846 (refund issued) code. The key indicator was that no notice was issued - this signaled an automated verification rather than an actual problem. The IRS has implemented enhanced verification protocols for returns with filing status changes (like post-divorce returns) and certain credits. The system automatically places a hold (570), verifies the information through internal databases, then releases the hold (571) once verification is complete. Check your transcript tomorrow - with cycle code 20240704, you're on the Thursday night/Friday morning update schedule. Most likely you'll see either continued processing or the 571 release code.
