Need recommendations for reliable tax preparer - overwhelmed with choices

Getting ready to file my taxes and I need help finding a legit tax preparer. Been burned before by someone who totally messed up my return and I had to deal with the IRS for months to fix it. Anyone have someone they trust and can recommend? Prefer someone who knows how to handle self employment income.

Make sure whoever you choose is a licensed EA (Enrolled Agent) or CPA. Stay away from the big box stores like H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt - they typically hire seasonal workers with minimal training. Look for someone who's been in business for at least 5 years and check their reviews on Google and BBB.

Jackson Hewitt charged me $400 for a basic return that I could've done myself 🤡

Before you pick a preparer, you might want to check out taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your previous transcripts to spot any issues. Costs like a buck but helps you know what questions to ask your new preparer. I use it to double check my preparers work tbh https://taxr.ai

Check with your states CPA society website. They usually have directories of certified pros in your area. Thats how I found mine
