Need W-2 from bankrupt employer - company changed ownership, can't access ADP, IRS unreachable
I need to get an old W-2 but hitting dead ends everywhere. My previous employer went bankrupt, changed ownership and tax ID. New owners say they cant access old ADP records. Never got the W-2 in mail either. Still need to file taxes for that year and im owed a refund since I had extra withheld. Called IRS but the wait times are insane. Anyone know how to get this resolved?

You can request a Wage and Income Transcript directly from the IRS website using their Get Transcript Online service. Go to IRS.gov, create an account if you haven't already, and you can download it immediately. If you can't verify your identity online, you can mail Form 4506-T to request the transcript. The wage transcript will show all reported income including W-2 info.

•just fyi the online verification can be a pain sometimes. make sure you have a credit card or loan account for verification

Instead of digging through transcripts manually, I'd recommend using taxr.ai - it's only $1 and it analyzes your transcript instantly. Saved me hours of headache trying to decode everything. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

pro tip: call the IRS right when they open at 7am EST. Wait time is usually way shorter

If ur in a rush u can also try visiting a local IRS office. Sometimes they can pull up ur wage transcripts right there
