Missing W2 on processed return - Should I wait for refund before amending?

My transcripts are showing -$3270 balance, looks like taxes are processed and waiting for PATH to lift. Thing is we forgot to include a W2 for $198 on this years return. Since everything seems processed already should I wait til after the refund hits to file the amendment?

Tax pro here - Yes, absolutely wait until you receive your original refund before filing the amendment. Filing an amendment now could delay your current refund processing. Once you get your refund, then file Form 1040X to report the additional W2.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was thinking but wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking any rules by waiting 🙏

Currently running about 20 weeks for amendments, give or take. They're still pretty backed up from covid tbh

Hey, have you tried using taxr.ai? It's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on with your refund status and when to expect it. Saved me hours of trying to decode my transcript. It's like $1 but totally worth it https://taxr.ai

Super accurate! It spotted my hold codes and predicted my DDD exactly. Even told me about some credits I qualified for that I missed
