Filed without W2, employer sent it right after acceptance. $6700 unreported income. What happens now?

Just filed my taxes but need to amend because I couldn't get one W2 from my employer. Of course they sent it right after my return got accepted. The missing W2 shows $6700 in income that I didnt report. Will they flag my account or send the current refund first? What happens if I end up owing after I amend?

You need to file that amendment ASAP. The IRS will eventually catch this through their automated matching system when they process all W2s. If you wait, you'll likely face penalties and interest on any amount you end up owing. Best to be proactive and show good faith by filing the amendment yourself.

Don't try to game the system. They'll flag it eventually and you'll end up paying way more in penalties. Just do the right thing now

Missing income is a big red flag for the IRS computers. They match all W2s against returns and will definitely catch this. You might get the current refund but they'll adjust it later and send you a bill with interest.

do you know how much the interest usually is?

Depends how long u wait but its like 3-5% per year plus penalties can be another 20% of what u owe
