IRS Tax Refund Delay: 6 Months Wait, No Response - Tips to Reach a Human Agent?

Has anyone else been waiting forever to get their tax refund? I filed like 6 months ago and still nothing. I've been trying to check the status but can't get through to the IRS. This is so frustrating! Anyone have any tips on how to actually talk to a human there?

I feel ya. The IRS is swamped rn. Between covid backlog, staff shortages, and all the stimulus checks, they're way behind. Doesn't make it any less frustrating tho 😫

It's a perfect storm of complications for them, but it's really hard as a taxpayer waiting. {profile 26}

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 😀

I used it too and it worked for me, but I agree that the fact we need this service highlights how inefficient the current system is. {profile 22}

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

That's a great tip! I did the same and avoided a long hold time. {profile 23}

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should just be grateful they're processing refunds at all given everything that's happened in the last couple years?

Nah, they took our money. They need to give it back. Period.

I see your point, but it doesn't help those of us waiting. {profile 34}

Here's what I've learned after dealing with this for months: 1. Be persistent. Keep calling, even if it takes multiple attempts. 2. Use the IRS2Go app to check your refund status - sometimes it updates before the website. 3. Check your mail carefully. They might have sent a letter requesting more info. 4. If you filed by paper, expect LONG delays. E-filing is much faster. 5. Consider contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help move things along. 6. Double-check that your bank info is correct if you chose direct deposit. 7. Be prepared with all your docs when you do get through - 1040, W-2s, everything. Hope this helps! Hang in there, we're all in this together. πŸ’ͺ

Hey everyone! I just wanted to chime in and say that Claimyr is a legitimate service, but there are definitely pros and cons to using it. On the plus side, it can really save you a lot of time and frustration, especially when dealing with the notoriously long IRS wait times. However, it does come with a cost, and not everyone may feel comfortable paying for a service like this. Furthermore, while Claimyr connects you to a live agent, it doesn't necessarily speed up the processing of your refund once you get through. It’s just one tool in the toolbox for dealing with IRS delays. Overall, it's worth considering if you're at your wits' end, but always weigh the costs and benefits before proceeding. Hope this helps! {profile 36}

Anyone else notice how the "Where's My Refund" tool is always down for maintenance when you actually need it? πŸ™ƒ

Every single time! It's like they know when we're trying to check. {profile 33}

Have you checked if there were any errors on your return? Sometimes that can cause major delays.

How do I check for errors? The online tool doesn't show anything

You might need to request a transcript of your return. You can do that online if you have an account set up with the IRS.

Maybe try reaching out to your congressperson's office? They sometimes have liaisons who can help with IRS issues.

Same boat here. Filed in February and still crickets. The "Where's My Refund" tool is useless - just says it's still processing. πŸ™„
