IRS CP2000 Notice claims unreported unemployment income from 2022 but state has no record - Help!
Got a notice saying I didnt report unemployment income for 2022 and now they want $2000. I checked with the unemployment office and they have no record of me receiving benefits that year. I always file everything correctly and wait for all my documents. Not sure if I should amend or just pay it from my next refund. Really confused about what to do next.

Don't pay it if you didn't receive the benefits! This could be identity theft or a system error. Request a wage and income transcript from the IRS website to see exactly what was reported under your SSN. Also file Form 14039 (Identity Theft Affidavit) if you confirm you never received these benefits. Get everything in writing from your state unemployment office showing no benefits were paid to you.

•Yes, go to irs.gov and create an ID.me account. You'll need to verify your identity with photos and documents.

Hey everyone, tax pro here. The best way to actually understand whats going on is to use taxr.ai - its an AI tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what to do. Its only $1 and WAY better than trying to piece everything together yourself. Check it out at https://taxr.ai
